“Worst hotel of our 3 week trip”

During May and June 2008 my wife and I organised a 3 week whistle-stop journey around some major Canadian centres. Most of our hotels were much less expensive than the Fairmont Park Lodge, but we decided to book this for some extra "care & attention" mid-way during our journey. We were both looking forward to a 2-night stay.

You may gather from the review title that we did not get this. We had to ask to be moved from our first lodge allocated - this was next to some sort of service area which, upon our arrival, had a used room service tray outside it (the squirrels seemed happy, we less so), by the litter bins, & backing onto what looked to be the coach park. Small & tired (the room, not the squirrel).

An hour and a half later, and following a vist from a hotel employee to discuss "our issues" we were moved - this time to a chalet whose back door backed onto the main reception approach road - so we were awoken the following morning to the sound of coach "reversing" audible warning signals. Later that same day while relaxing before our evening meal we could clearly hear the next door chalet's television, and (worse!) their bathroom plumbing.

Nobody followed up on our move to confirm we were happy. To date, despite including our contact details on our feedback form, the hotel has not contacted us regarding our dissatisfaction.

To provide a balanced review - the setting of this resort is terrific, and the evening dining experience, whilst expensive, was both delicious and attentive, particular thanks to our waiter, Mike, in the Mooses Nook.

We paid £220 per night, room only (for both of us). We do not believe this represents value for money, and therefore cannot recommend this resort to others.

We drove from Calgary to Fairmont Jasper, and the drive was incredible and top it all was this beautiful hotel.

the staff upgraded my wife and i to a lake facing room and the view was just fabulous.

the fairmont is a bit expensive, but well worth the locations provided

service is good, but not 24 hours and none of the restaurants are open 24 hours....something which needs to be worked upon.

to sum up, i like this hotel.

“Amazing Location and Magical Lodge.”

We have been to the Jasper Park Lodge (JPL) several times. I love it there. We have been in both summer and winter months, and regardless of the season there is something that is magical about the location of this hotel.

The hotel is a collection of little cabins that surround the main Lodge that is on Lac Beauvert. The setting is beautifully done, and the Lodge, regardless of season is fantastic. The outdoor pool can be used year round, as access to the pool is from inside the lodge and then accessed thru a plastic curtain to the outdoor pool area.

The Main lodge has the resorts shops and restaurants. During Christmas the lodge is decorated immaculately, and there are huge Christmas trees that are close to the massive fireplaces inside the lodge. The restaurant/bar area close to the fireplaces are wonderful spots for sipping a warm drink on a cold evening.

I have had a number of different types of rooms, from a 'Fairmont Room' (ie: basic room), to a Junior Suite. The basic rooms are quite basic and fairly small. In fact even a Junior Suite is still a small room in comparison to what other hotels offer for their Junior Suites. The bathrooms in the Fairmont Rooms are quite small, and even some of the Junior Suite bathrooms can be small too.

The Fairmont Rooms do not come with fireplaces, and in winter, or depending on how cold it is in summer, the fire place is really a nice bonus. The rooms that do have fireplaces in them, the staff will build you a kindling pile, provide you with newspaper and there will be a stack of cut wood outside your door. There will even be a package of matches open and basically ready for you to strike to have your own romantic little fire.

The Resort prides itself on the service and in all the times I've been there that service is excellent. They will deliver ice to your door (as there is no ice machine down the hall - as there is no hall). The only one time we had an issue with service, we later found out that they had a minor fire in the main lodge, so in hindsight that little blip in service can be understood.

If you get a chance, dining in the Edith Cavel dining room is as nice as it gets, service is impeccable, food is fantastic. Prices are steep, but this is fine dining in the heart of the Rockies. So its an experience.

Overall, I have always had a wonderful experience at the JPL. The Lodge has a setting unlike any other place I've ever been and the rooms feel like what they should be, little cabins in the woods in the Rocky Mountains. I will be looking forward to my next trip to the JPL.

Spent two nights in a bungalow on the lake. Great view and large room. Staff was very pleasant and helpfull. The only glich was in the resturants. Had problems with orders twice and a long wait for supper due to large group in resturant. Overall good stay, but pricey.

Jasper Park Lodge was amazing. Cute huts and hotel set around the lake in the mountains.
We didn't book direct with the hotel, but through an internet company and printed off a voucher. There was some confusion over the booking, we booked 2 double rooms and they had booked us as 1 room with 2 double beds. We were totally reassured by the trainee who called over his supervisor and within less than 5 minutes we were upgraded from hotel rooms to suites overlooking the lake with fireplaces (and we didn't even have to look annoyed over the confusion, I would have just been pleased with 2 rooms not just 1 so my partner and I wouldn't have to share with my mother!)
Everything was perfect, service, rooms were lovely, and the best part was elk wondering around outside our cabins!
We ordered room service for breakfast which was exquisit and ate it beside the lake on the provided deck.
All in all this place is just like a scene from dirty dancing (with upgraded clothes, music, none of that corny 'lets go learn the samba' and nothing dirty of course!) We all loved every minute, its pure outdoors luxury.
