I'm not sure where to begin. The part where we were greeted by name upon arrival, the fact we were given the keys to the room and that we walked downtown along the beautiful waterfront for dinner BEFORE registering, the georgous room, the comfortable bed, the great sleeper sofa; or was it the hospitality of the entire staff?

We stayed in the Fireplace Suite and it was more than comfortable for two couples. The master bedroom was huge. The bed was fantastic! The sleeper sofa was so good I didn't even notice that I was on a sleeper bed. The bathroom is wonderful. Huge bathtub!

The attention to detail was amazing. Plush bathrobes, bath salts, snacks, and more. Dave, Marlene and Chris are more than hosts, they feel like family.

If you're looking for the best value for your dollar, you must stay at the Buccaneer Inn.

If you want luxury, you must stay at the Buccaneer Inn.

If you want to be within walking distance of the harbour walkway, you must stay at the Buccaneer Inn.

If you want personalized service, you must stay at the Buccaneer Inn.

I arrived in Nanaimo after about 30 hours on the road non-stop, taking a bus through the Rockies from Calgary, the ferry from Vancouver to Victoria, and then the bus to Nanaimo. I had only booked for one night (my general habit, until I know what I'm getting). I arrived at the hotel, was treated well, asked if I could stay for two nights, that was arranged. I then ran out to have something to eat, got back to the hotel with some beer in hand and CRASHED. After the two nights, and absolutely falling in love with Nanaimo and it's friendliness, I decided to stay longer. I was told that was OK, until I returned to be told that there were "too many beer cans in the room" (which I had collected and put back in the case or in the garbage) and that they had some complaints. I was asked to find another place to stay. Complaints about what, I'm not sure since I spent most of the time sleeping (and yeah, drinking beer). First time in twenty plus years of bopping around Canada and the world that that has ever happened to me. Didn't use so much as a knife or spoon, hung my towels, as I recall, so I could use them later. I have no idea what the problem was.....maybe they had a better offer. It's a shame really, because Nanaimo and it's people are wonderful, and I would certainly recommend it as a destination if you looking for a little peace and quiet.

Management Response

The Buccaneer Inn is a small, family owned and oriented property. We work tirelessly to provide spotlessly clean, comfortable accommodation to the traveling public. We thank this reviewer for noting our rooms and the cleanliness of our property are 5 stars.

We take seriously each of our guest's right to a restful, peaceful and safe environment. In the rare instance when we receive a complaint about an infringement upon one of our guest’s rights, we evaluate the situation and act upon it. In this particular case we determined that the complaints we had received were valid and in all likelihood the problems would continue. Therefore we decided ask this guest to move on.

Thank you for the opportunity of responding to this review.

After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and reading the description on the Buccaneer website we thought that this would be THE motel of all motels. It is very clean and comfortable but we found it over priced. We had a view suite with king bed and paying $109.95 CAD + taxes in the off season ( February) we thought was out of line. There are hotel rooms to be had in the area for $79 which would be reasonable for this motel in the off season. This is true even for one with a view. Parking can be a bit of an issue as well if the place is full. For us the price made this one just so-so.

“Great Find!”

From the online reservation procedure to the directions and description of the property - Marlene and Dave have it dialed!

I was searching for a moderately priced room for a shopping excursion/overnight getaway for my boyfriend and I when I stumbled upon this unique property. The marine style decor is tasteful and very fitting to the area (adjacent to Nanaimo's harbour). The attention to detail is great! The room is stocked with everything you may have forgotten (including a wine opener!) We stayed in the "Cozy Studio". Take note: cozy means teeny. I found the bathroom a little difficult to move around in. However, the traffic noise noted on their website didn't bother me at all.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat and have been recommending this spot to all my friends!

Dave and Marlene made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived at the Buccaneer Inn for the 3rd leg of our honeymoon travelling around BC. Marlene suggested various places to visit during our 2-3 days in Nanaimo - inclusing Newcastle Island, the walk along the promenade and Piper's Lagoon - which were beautiful.

We had a one bed suite... the kitchen suited our needs, bed was lovely, as was the bathroom. We loved the eco-awareness, such as only changing our towels when requested, and having big tubs of moisturiser/soap etc instead of tiny wasteful sachets.

We had a lovely time at the Bucaneer Inn, and would definitely stay here again if and when we pass through Nanaimo.
