We flew from Victoria to Vancouver on a seaplane which was well worth the extra money. It landed near Canada Place - only a short taxi drive from the hotel, which is situated on the corner of Robson Street and Bute Street. We had a room on the 23rd floor. The room was enormous - very well appointed - with two huge windows - one looking between the high rises towards the bay and Grouse Mountain - the other looking onto Robson Street. It was very quiet and extremely comfortable. Our only niggle is why are all the bathrooms so small when the bedroom is so large! The wardrobe contained a large safe which we used constantly which meant we didn't have to carry everything around with us, a mini bar/fridge (which we didn't use) and a coffee making machine which was much appreciated. The staff at reception were super - it was through them that we managed to buy tickets (off a tout) for the first match of the season of the Canucks Ice Hockey Team. Even if you know nothing about ice hockey - go - the atmosphere is fantastic, and its fun bartering with the ticket touts (and safe)! Again the weather was wet except for one glorious day when we went on the sea bus (included in the buspass - either 2 or 3 days - for Vancouver transport) over to North Vancouver and then caught a bus up to Grouse Mountain to look at the views of Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Its a very worthwhile trip as there are a lot of walks on the mountain, and they also have 2 orphaned grizzly bears in an excellent habitat. We avoided the Capilano Suspension Bridge due to the price($25 pp) and the tourists! On our return by bus we caught the bus which drives through Stanley Park, so we were able to walk to the Aquarium which is a MUST if you have children - they have Beluga Whales, Dolphins, otters, and loads of other fish - and the entry price is very good value for money. We didn't eat in the Blue Horizon as we prefer to go out for meals. We found food and drink (particularly wine) expensive compared to UK and European prices but there is a great deal of choice on Robson Street. We also went to the Vancouver Art Gallery at Robson Square - do go to see the Emily Carr paintings. After 3 days we had booked a hire car through Alamo (which is very conveniently on the street behind the hotel) to continue our holiday touring the Rockies.
We would certainly highly recommend the Blue Horizon Hotel - the swimming pool needs updating so be aware that there is no attendant if you have children - but it was clean and the water was warm. We would defintely stay at the hotel again if we returned to Vancouver as it is in such a great central place for walking to all the different areas.
