I stay at this hotel at least 30 nights per year, usually in one-week stays, and find it overall an excellent value and very good quality. The hotel is not the Fairmont, and doesn't pretend to be. However, at their very reasonable rates (down to $69 in the winter), what you get is worth every penny.

The rooms are comfortable and clean, the location is very convenient for getting to various places around Vancouver, and the free parking is a nice bonus. The bedspreads and towels could be upgraded. Request a room with fridge and microwave if this could be useful to you.

The front desk staff are all very helpful, and will gladly give you advice on places to go eat, or how to get around.

Breakfast is basic but decent, with no hot choices available. It does get a bit repetitive after a few days, but there are ample choices in the area.

The high speed wired Internet connection is consistently fast. There is also a terminal in the lobby including a laser printer, but which is very expensive.

There is a good reason the gym closes at 8pm, and that is the noise it makes. If you are sensitive to this, do request a room away from the gym. Likewise, the noise from Kingsway is quite persistent day and night, so again, a room at the back of the hotel is preferable if this bothers you.

As others have mentioned, the hotel is perhaps not in the very best area of town, but it is certainly not dangerous. The usual caution you would show in any large city applies here. Car theft is a major problem anywhere in the Vancouver area.

My room was fairly modern, very clean and spacious (for 1). The staff was very helpful with directions and advice. There's not too much to do around the immediate neighborhood, but is safe and fairly quite (definitely better than downtown). Not the cheapest, but for a moderate rate, a very good stay.

A jewel in the rough.
* First impressions: On corner of a busy street. Receptionist was gracious. I asked for a room NOT beneath the gym and he said "Oh, you must have been here before!" I had not...I had just read another Trip Advisor report! Thanks!
* Customer Service: Excellent. I was able to stay a little longer because my flight took off late.
* Room Service: Good food, fast service via a restaurant attached to the hotel next door. Priced OK.
* Parking: Free parking in a double locked garage beneath and to the rear of the hotel.
* In Room: Very clean and tidy. Room was well sized though not huge. There was a little noise from the street so you may want to ask for a room away from the main street. Air conditioning was noisy.
* Location: Good for the price.
* Overall: Very happy, would go again, would recommend to others e.g. on a budget.

A have stayed in this hotel on a number of occasions, probably totalling a month or so alltogether.

The rooms are uniformly nice, and would command a much higher price if the hotel was located 1km closer into the downtown core. I have stayed in $200+ hotels with rooms like these. Tastefully decorated and modern. Many of the rooms have a commanding view of the city.

The hotel is located on a busy thoroughfare, and is on the western edge of a somewhat downtrodden and crime-ridden area, but one that is undergoing gentrification as many new upscale condos pop up. To it's west is the newly named "SoMa" (south Main) area which has become a pocket of trendy eateries and shops -- all within a couple blocks walk.

Good public transit in all directions is at the door, and the nearest Skytrain station is just a couple blocks away.

Breakfast is an adequate Continental style, no surprises, nothing outstanding.

Parking is the one sore spot for this otherwise great spot. There is a limited underground parking, and the spots are very difficult to maneuver into unless you are a highly skilled driver or have a compact car. There is usually a decent amount of free parking on the street , but keep in mind that this is a high-theft area, so clean out your vehicle, and leave nothing valuble in sight.

I have the say that this is one of the best hotel for its price. Booked it 14 days in advance and got about 60 CAD pernight. The room was clean and had everything you need, except for a safe to keep my passport and important documents, but that wouldnt matter much.

Had everything i need in the room, tv, microwave, fridge and wireless internet. (The cable didnt work for me but the wireless was still fast). Although i am not sure if there is a microwave in every room, (I Requested for it) and they put me on the first floor, right beside the breakfast room. (Just few steps away)

Room was very neatly done and very cozy, with high celings and very spaceous. I was pretty happy that they had a direct bus to UBC just half a block away, and also bus 19 goes directly to metrotown station. Walking to the skytrain isn't that bad since it only takes about 10-15mins.

I am quite impressed with the service at the frontdesk as they were always friendly to guide you about the food around the area, and also the directions to places.

Oh yeah, the free breakfast every morning was a bonus. Had bread, hot chocolate, cereals, juices, muffins, coffee and stuffs there.

So overall, i would give this hotel a 5 star rating for the price and i would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. (If you do not mind that it's about 30mins from downtown and metrotown)
