Very stylish boutique city hotel in an excellent location. Rooms are excellent (if not that large even though we took the larger rooms) and the staff knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and an asset to any stay. We stayed for one night and then returned for two more after spending some days in Whistler and received a warm welcome back with some thoughtful touches in the room to acknowledge we had returned. All such things lead toward this being one of the best city hotels anywhere however the overall impression of quality and style is a little let down by the breakfast experience which is inconsistent with the rest of the hotel. Our room booking entitled us to a continental breakfast which was a small bar top buffet in the restaurant annexed which was a little meagre even after making allowance for the fact that this is a smaller hotel so the type of offering seen in large hotels cannot be expected. There is a breakfast menu that can be taken but that was not in fact mentioned to us and upon looking at it it did not really inspire in any event. It rather felt as though the restaurant was not really there to provide breakfast and the whole thing was a bit of an afterthought while the staff got the place ready for the real business of the day to come; small things irritated such as coffee other than the low quality type provided in a plunger flask on the bar top was an extra and one glass of juice only was provided etc which is just that bit too mean to leave the impression the rest of the hotel is clearing seeking to achieve and is inconsistent with that being provided by other hotels so they really should pay attention to this (I see that others have taken a similar impression). Another, albeit smaller, issue is that charging for internet access in the room is just not the market standard anymore (I travel a lot on business) and any hotel, like the Loden, that does charge an hourly or daily rate in the room for such access is out of step especially if it markets itself as a business friendly place. So, yes, we will go back to the Loden because it is very good but wish it would take the time to bring its food offering up to the standard of the rest of the hotel.
