Stayed at Spinnakers in October 2007 for three nights. Booked room #3 in the Heritage House section and was not at all disappointed in my choice of rooms.
Check in went smoothly and was able to get into the room earlier than check in at 3pm.During check in, the Inn staff ensure that you are asked when you would like your morning breakfast delivered to your room, what extras you may want, and whether you would like to be called when they are about to deliver. The staff at the desk also seem to take the time to learn and to call guests by their names when they see them throughout their stay. Overall they were very helpful with any questions or queries throughout my stay.
The room itself was beautiful; decorated with antique type furniture, a queen bed, electric fireplace, flat screen TV, tealight candles, assorted books, two large chairs to curl up in, and an outside patio furnished with a table and chairs right off the bedroom area.
The bathroom was the best part; decorated also in antique type furnishings, a large double soaker/jacuzzi tub and rain shower, and nice little toiletries to use while you're there. There were also two bathrobes and an ample amount of fluffy white towels.
The breakfast basket that arrived each morning consisted of homemade pastries/croissants, etc, coffee cream (if requested), a glass of juice, and a local newspaper. The pastries, etc changed on a daily basis so you were surprised each time you opened it up and it was still warm upon arrival.
In the afternoons, a bottle of the hotel's own carbonated water and homemade truffles arrived and were left for you upon your return later in the day. This was also a nice extra!
As for parking, there was a parking area behind the Heritage House for guests to use, otherwise parking was also available in the hotel lot or on the street.
I found the place relaxing and easily accessible if you had a vehicle. Spinnakers is also located overlooking the harbour and has a path directly down to the waterfront and harbour walk section.
As I didn't eat at the Brewhouse, I can't comment on the food but I did purchase some of their own brewed beers from the Inn store and they were fantastic also. I also didn't have the opportunity to see the other types of guest houses the property has, so am not sure whether they would be similar to the Heritage House section which has five different types of rooms in a large house that has been renovated into suites.
Overall, I can't say enough good things about this property and am quite surprised by the previous negative reviews as this was not my experience at all! I would highly recommend and the price was right. Happy travels!
