The Admiral Inn is a well-intentioned old motel and a textbook case of the limited influence a friendly staff can have on a stay when material conditions are poor. If you choose to stay at the Admiral Inn, you will be fully aware of what to expect.
We spent a few nights at the Admiral Inn in May. We were looking for a one-bedroom suite near the harbour in Victoria because we were travelling as a family and a kitchen affords us much needed flexibility.
The location is very good - a few minutes away from the action and our room had a full kitchen. The room was big and clean and the staff was very nice and accommodating. Local calls are free as well as WiFi.
The Inn is truly a motel. The rooms have been left mostly untouched for the past 30 years and are utterly out of style. The low-end kitchen appliances were much more recent though. The dishes, glasses and cutlery were in barely sufficient quantity. The spring mattress was uncomfortable (even with their vaunted feather topper) and the sound insulation of the rooms won't prevent you from hearing loud plumbing noises and street traffic. The carpet is old and worn and the TV is minuscule.
There is a complimentary continental breakfast available every morning, which is convenient yet very basic: Tea, coffee, fruits and fruit juice, bread, bagel, english muffins, hard-boiled eggs, PB and J.
Our room had a shared balcony, which is quite awkward, with a peak-a-boo view of the Empress and Legislative buildings, hardly what a harbour-view should be.
We paid the last-minute blow out price but it was hardly worth it. Perhaps had we too high expectations?
In conclusion, we chose to give the Inn an Average rating because "Poor" would have been unfair and false and we feel that if the rooms were updated and refreshed it would be a good value.

Thank you for taking the time advise us of your thoughts. We are pleased that you enjoyed the the things we value the most and which has many stay with us again and again ; location, clean rooms, friendly staff and the breakfast. We try to have a little something so every dietary concern can me met. This is a challenge in the small space we have, but the majority seem satisfied as were you. Did you try the free bicycles?

Sorry you were not aware that we have extra kitchen supplies which any guest may access if they ask. Due to economy and storage space, we try to cover the basics and supply the extras as needed. We have an ongoing program to upgrade the beds. This year we achieved 1/3 of our rooms. With regards to the view, alas, our suites are not at the Best View end of the hotel.
Again I thank you for helping us improve in our efforts to provide a pleasant place for our guests to say. I trust your objective opinion will benefit other.
