We came to Victoria to celebrate a 60th birthday and had three rooms for 3 nights at this hotel. I wasn't sure about it as some of the reviews were not great, but this was a lovely hotel and worth every penny. Compared to other hotels I researched, the rate for this hotel was really good for the high season. All of our rooms were well appointed and clean and as quiet as they could be considering the location. Staff were very helpful and the hotel was packed with tourists. Parking was very reasonable at $4/day.

We had breakfast, one day, in the hotel restaurant and it was very good and certainly not overpriced - we all commented on how reasonable it was.

The location is excellent. We were able to walk most places so rarely had to move our cars.

The only drawback is that there is no air conditioning and it was warm when we were there. I resolved that by leaving my balcony door and windows open during the day so it had cooled down sufficiently for me to close them at night. There was a fan in the closet but I didn't have to use it.

Otherwise, an excellent choice and I would definitely stay here again.

“One Night Stay”

Queen Victoria Hotel and Suites

8 Jul 2008

My wife and I spent one night at this hotel. The hotel is a little dated, and most importantly the rooms have no air conditioning. We are accustomed to sleeping with the air blasting and had to settle for an oscillating fan. Be careful when booking your stay. Our planet has been known to have unexplainable heat waves and you won't want to be here when it happens in Victoria!

We did not expect much as we booked through a travel agent but when we arrived at 10pm as we were delayed the staff could not be more helpful. They had kept the room even though we had not told them we would be late and as it was too late for the resturant the reception staff made us sandwiches.
The concierge was very helpful and gave us good advice on what to see and the times of various trips.
The room was clean, nicely decorated and a good size.
One day we will be back.

Excellent location, near the city center and parliament. From our room it was possible to see the shore.
Rooms were bigger than expected and also very clean.

The check-in staff were less than welcoming, the first room we went to was a Junior Suite. It had a bad smell from the kitchen and the t.v. sat in a cupboard that did not have a swivel base so it faced the sliding glass door, not the bed, nor the loveseat in the sitting area. The only way to watch t.v.would be to stand at the kitchen counter. This was unacceptable to me so we were moved to a one-bedroom for the same price. However checking the website it should have been $40 cheaper. When I questioned the front desk about it, I was advised that because the one bedroom had a 'view' and an optional kitchen it worked out to the same price. I wasn't offered a room without a view, nor to keep the kitchen closed and save $40 so was very ticked off and feeling taken for granted by this but too tired to move yet again. The one bedroom was very cold and lacking furniture. The beds & linens were motel quality, very thin & cheap, rock hard mattress, bad t.v. reception and lacking any sort of warmth at all. The website shows a table and chairs, a plant and a coffee table which were all missing from our room. I asked for the kitchen to stay closed and we ate out, as we'd planned to anyway, so perhaps the table & chairs are kept in there?. The next night we moved for my birthday, to 702 - the Studio Penthouse expecting a large, lovely penthouse suite. What we got was a nice 'small - average' sized hotel room with a larger balcony and a lovely bathroom with 2 person jacuzzi tub. All they show for photos is a 2-bedroom penthouse and it looks massive which I"m sure it is, but this room, by NO means was worth $240! Simply because it is on the top floor, it's called a Penthouse but the floor is shared with a long row of hotel rooms so basically they upgraded their beds & linens and furnishings. Had it not been for the large, lovely bathroom I probably would have walked right out. The fireplace is nice but the room is so small you can't leave it on for very long before you're dying of heat. We felt ROYALLY ripped off with false advertising on their website and less than informative front desk check-in staff. Sure it's a good location but so are a lot of other hotels nearby. I took a risk on a 'no name brand' hotel and I don't think I'll ever do it again unless it has impeccable reviews. Perhaps I had higher expectations because it was my birthday weekend, but why shouldn't I? Whether someone is there for a quick overnight or a weekend celebration the hotel should be up to a comfortable, restful nights' stay for the price they're charging.
