“Good value if you don't mind music thru the night”

We were met by a very polite young lady at check in. The lobby was sparse but that was of no concern. They were refurbishing. We were in our warm, clean room within 3 minutes of our arrival on a freezing afternoon after a long trip. There is a pub downstairs which was always very busy - so we avoided it and simply crossed the street to Earl's to eat. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance and the hotel is just a five minute walk from the harbor. We too were awakened by loud music throughout the night and this seems to be the main problem with this hotel. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and, if it weren't for the all-night "entertainment" raging below us, we would have recommended this property highly for the budget traveler as it was comfortable, clean, centrally located and inexpensive.

“Dumpy, but clean, well located, and a fraction of the price of other area hotels”

With an event to attend and our summer holiday budget already taxed, my husband and I sought an economical alternative to our usual Victoria hotels. A friend recommended the Bedford Regency. We booked online and received a rate that was less than half of what virtually all other hotels in the area were charging at the end of high season. The hotel is not fancy nor does it try to be. It was last renovated in 1987 and the lobby in particular is quite an eyesore. Our room however was clean, the bed comfortable, the staff competent. The hotel meets one's basic needs. Our room was quite large and although it faced one of the main downtown tourist strips, it was surprisingly quiet. The location is right in the center of everything you would want to walk to in Victoria. There is also a nice pub downstairs and it is just a short distance to the harbour. The Bedford Regency will never be on my list of top picks for Victoria, but in a pinch, it is an okay place to lay one's head for a night or two - just keep your expectations in check and remember you are getting a (comparatively) good price for the location.

Great location downtown Victoria across from the Bay Mall. Clean, older establishment. Comfortable beds, room was fairly small. There is an Irish Pub next door and there was significant party noise up until 3am each night. My biggest complaint is the sharp edges on the bed posts. Each of us bumped into the foot bed posts and received bad bruises on our thighs. I would recommend tying a bath towel around the post for padding. Two weeks later, I still have the bruise and it's still tender. Loved the speedy internet.

“Really Awful Hotel”

Bedford Regency

29 Apr 2008

This place was shocking.

Noisy, very, very noisy (as others have mentioned the music coming through the floors ALL night).

Parking miles away. No privacy if you happen to be located in a room by the windows facing straight into another room opposite.

To top it off they were in the process of renovating (no warning about this when the booking was made), there were dropsheets & other tools etc everywhere and the stench of paint was too much.

I would never stay here again, nor recommend it to my worst enemy.

“Terrible Stay at the Bedford”

Bedford Regency

Vancouver, BC, Canada
21 Apr 2008

My spouse and I have stayed at the Bedford Regency many times in the past, but after this last visit we will never go back.

We've always been OK with the quirky nature of the hotel - the dated '80's decor, noisy plumbing, the incompetent staff, parking two blocks away for an extra $10 a day - because we felt it was a trade off for good rates in a great location. Not so any longer. We were woken in the early hours when the dance music started in the basement of the building. It was not just the sound of the music that woke us, but the vibrations. THE WHOLE HOTEL SHAKES FROM 1AM UNTIL 5AM.

I went to the lobby at about 3:30AM to see if we could change to a quieter room, and the front desk was actually moving with the base beat! They tried moving us up one floor, and when that was still noisy, to the top (fourth) floor, where you could still hear the base, but it didn't make your teeth rattle. We should have just left then. We didn't get to sleep until after it stopped at 5AM.

We checked out shortly after 10AM on Sunday. We hauled our bags two blocks down the street to the parkade, only to find it locked. I waited by the door with the luggage, and my spouse walked back to the hotel to get the key to the garage, only to be told that someone had it (they only have one, apparently) and we'd have to wait. When he asked the clerk why she hadn't told us when we checked out that the garage was locked and we would need a key, she asked him why he thought she would know that we had a car. He pointed out that she had just charged us for parking. We had to sit outside and wait for the place to open at 11 to spring our car and missed our ferry as a result.

The Bedford used to be a funky little hotel - I read the other recent Trip Advisor reviews before we left, and took them with a grain of salt because we'd stayed there before. What a mistake! It's not funky any more. It's a bad deal at any price.
