I have been to Silver Star with my husband and two children twice before for the Christmas period and we are going again this Christmas. Its a magical resort at this time of year. We have stayed at Grandview and have also rented a private suite. Grandview is very comfortable and has underground parking, which is very useful when the temp outside can be -25 so it means no scraping the car windscreen every morning. However we like to have a private hot tub so we choose to stay in one of the many private suites available in resort. We have only been snowboarding for a few years so we find the mountain facilities fantastic and the Canadians are so helpful and patient with you unlike the resorts in Europe. Its only a 30-40 minute drive down the mountain to Vernon where you will find many restaurants, large super markets, cinema etc. There is a small shop in the resort but this is only suitable for the basics, when we arrive we go down the mountain to the large super market to stock up for the fortnight. In fact my husband says we spent to much time down the mountain shopping in Wall Mart and many other fantastic bargain shops we don't have back home. Silver Star is a special place for us at Christmas and I would highly recommend it, if you have any questions please just ask.

We chose Silver Star as a convenient stopping off point between Banff and Vancouver. When we finally located the resort, 22 kms above Vernon we had a friendly chat with the receptionist, who decided to upgrade us from a standard room to a suite (sitting room with fire and kitchenette, plus a bedroom with a kingsize bed and a small area off that with bunks). It was off peak(August) and the hotel wasn't full, but we thought $99 per night was extremely good value.

Corstin House

I went to Silver Stay mountain resort with a group of 9 other friends. We went to go mountain biking during the Norco VPS fest. Although the mountain was good for riding our accomodations left many things to be desired.

This house should not be allowed to sleep 10 people. There are only three bedrooms and we were left with one couple sleeping on an extremely uncomfortable futon that was placed on the landing at the top of the stairs with absolutely no privacy. The hot tub was only comfortable for about 4 people. All the appliances were very old and run down. None of the dishes had been cleaned before we arrived. We had to wash everything before we could use it. There was not enough room for everone to sit and eat dinner together. The garage was not even big enough for one vehicle. And one of the worst things was when it rained all the big windows in the living room leaked and soaked the carpet in the living room. When we called the front desk, no one would help clean it up.

Despite this some of the other houses on the mountain we saw were really nice. But as for the Corstin House being "Premium" accommodation was completely incorrect and beyond disappointing when we arrived.

The snow is fabulous, each day we had fresh powder. The resort isn't busy and the staff is very friendly. Lift tickets were good for day + night skiing, although night skiing is only offered Thursday, Friday and Sat. We skied 4 days on blue and black runs. The resort was huge and there were still lots of runs we didn't have time to ski. We stayed at Creekside Condos - the studio that had a Murphy bed, the bed was okay but felt small for 2 people. The Condo was beautiful and had a great view! The condo is actually located in the middle of the mountain and is approx. 6000 ft above sea level. You can see the chair lift from the living room window.

The front desk will rent DVDs for free but the DVD player in our condo was broken and the hotel didn't have any spare players available. I suggest you bring a portable DVD player. We got a %10 discount at the Bull Dog Restaurant because we were staying at the resort. The grocery store on the mountain is small and has limited supplies. Bring your own coffee, sugar, tea, salt and pepper because this isn't provided at the condo. You can buy salt and pepper for $0.25 each. I would definitely stay at this resort again!

We stayed at the Creekside Condos. Our condo was so nice and comfy that I wish I could have stayed so much longer! The kitchen had everything except food of course. But there were some basics like sugar and salt. Bring some movies. There was a DVD and VHS players. Or you can rent them from the rental office.
The condo complex had a ski storage room which was accessible from the outside and inside to make it really easy to get on/off the ski hill right away. There was an outdoor hot-tub which was amazing to be in after a long day of skiing!

The skiing was fantastic! We were able to get on the ski hill by walking across the street to the Silver Queen Lift. We would have liked to go tubing but we won this ski trip and decided to use our free ski lift tickets to the full advantage for the 2 days.
