We have just returned from our 3rd trip to Whistler having stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott. We saw this hotel last year from the chair lift and thought then what an excellent location and decided to book it for this year. We are so glad that we did.
Location:
Excellent, slope side - couldnt be easier. No need to walk for miles in your ski boots trying to balance you skis on your shoulder!
A regular shuttle bus (every 4-6 minutes) takes you into Whistler and back again and these run all day until about 1am. This is a great service as whilst the hotel is only minutes from the resort centre it would take about 25 minutes to walk up a steep winding road - and with all the snow (40 feet and counting.!!) the walk can prove a challenge !
Hotel:
A typical ski hotel. Rustic, warm, friendly and welcoming.
The rooms are great.Functional with comfy beds and an excellent kitchen corner. Great views from where ever your room is (either slope side or forest facing).
The hotel also has washers and dryers on every floor - clean ski socks daily - fantastic !!
The free breakfast is ok. Can get extremely busy but the food is not too bad. Eggs (although the powered type), sausage burgers, croissants, muffins, bagels, cereals, fruit, toast, coffee and juice. So a substantial start - for free ! A definite plus.
The only down side (and really not too much of a problem) is the fact that the hotel does not have its on bar which is a shame really because the communal area (with fireplace etc) is nice, it looks onto the slopes and it would have been nice to have had a night cap before retiring .
For value for money - you really cannot beat it. My husband and I stayed at the residence for 8 nights for £840 for both of us (this was just for the hotel)in a studio including a free breakfast -a great deal .
Whistler is a great place and the hotel has to have one of the best locations in the town.
As my husband and I had spent a week in Vancouver City prior to our ski trip we hired a 4 wheel drive to take us to Whilstler and use whilst in the resort and then take us back to the airport. Whilst this was useful we didnt actually use the car much whilst in Whislter as the shuttle buses are so good, so if I were you I would look into taking either the Perimeter Bus,the Greyhound Bus or the Snocoach from Vancouver to Whistler. You can get a return trip for about $40 CAN return per person which again will not break the bank !.
Have a fantastic time - its an awesome place !
