We have just returned from our 3rd trip to Whistler having stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott. We saw this hotel last year from the chair lift and thought then what an excellent location and decided to book it for this year. We are so glad that we did.

Location:
Excellent, slope side - couldnt be easier. No need to walk for miles in your ski boots trying to balance you skis on your shoulder!
A regular shuttle bus (every 4-6 minutes) takes you into Whistler and back again and these run all day until about 1am. This is a great service as whilst the hotel is only minutes from the resort centre it would take about 25 minutes to walk up a steep winding road - and with all the snow (40 feet and counting.!!) the walk can prove a challenge !
Hotel:
A typical ski hotel. Rustic, warm, friendly and welcoming.
The rooms are great.Functional with comfy beds and an excellent kitchen corner. Great views from where ever your room is (either slope side or forest facing).
The hotel also has washers and dryers on every floor - clean ski socks daily - fantastic !!
The free breakfast is ok. Can get extremely busy but the food is not too bad. Eggs (although the powered type), sausage burgers, croissants, muffins, bagels, cereals, fruit, toast, coffee and juice. So a substantial start - for free ! A definite plus.

The only down side (and really not too much of a problem) is the fact that the hotel does not have its on bar which is a shame really because the communal area (with fireplace etc) is nice, it looks onto the slopes and it would have been nice to have had a night cap before retiring .

For value for money - you really cannot beat it. My husband and I stayed at the residence for 8 nights for £840 for both of us (this was just for the hotel)in a studio including a free breakfast -a great deal .
Whistler is a great place and the hotel has to have one of the best locations in the town.
As my husband and I had spent a week in Vancouver City prior to our ski trip we hired a 4 wheel drive to take us to Whilstler and use whilst in the resort and then take us back to the airport. Whilst this was useful we didnt actually use the car much whilst in Whislter as the shuttle buses are so good, so if I were you I would look into taking either the Perimeter Bus,the Greyhound Bus or the Snocoach from Vancouver to Whistler. You can get a return trip for about $40 CAN return per person which again will not break the bank !.

Have a fantastic time - its an awesome place !

In our opinion the Marriott is, from the outside, the most aesthetically pleasing of the hotels in the area. It must also be in contention for best location as regards convenience of access to & from the slopes. This is particularly true if, like us, you end up with a slight preference for Blackcomb Mountain over Whistler.

Being situated higher than any other of the hotels, there would sometimes be rain falling down in the village which was falling as snow back up at hotel level. The temperature difference was noticeable yet not uncomfortably so.

Our room (standard studio) was surprisingly spacious & well equipped, particularly in terms of self-catering facilities & dining space. A large refrigerator compensated somewhat for the absence of a bar in the hotel.

The bed was adequately comfortable & the lounge area all the more so after a little impromptu furniture rearrangement. The thermostatically controlled gas fire was one of the factors which persuaded us to stay here in the first place & provided a satisfactory ambience during several evenings when we were just too tired to leave the room. There was a large selection of (slightly pricey) pay-per-view movies available for just such occasions.

As mentioned by a previous reviewer, we found the room inordinately warm, despite having turned the heating controls to minimum. We ended up propping open the windows overnight until, on our penultimate day, i noticed that the corridor heating vent adjacent to our room was constantly blowing hot air underneath the door. By sneakily turning the vent right off, the problem was solved altogether!

Breakfast was initially wonderful and I particularly enjoyed making replica sausage & egg Mcmuffins! After a week or so though, most of the impressive buffet selection lost some appeal due to familiarity.

The only thing that would put us off from returning here was that it is clearly a great value proposition for families. Unfortunately for us this meant squealing mobs of kids (almost all from one particular ethnicity, as it happens) running riot throughout the dining area. I really don't have a problem with kids when they're under control, but during several breakfast times this lot made things really uncomfortable for other guests by barging past, trampling their outdoor shoes over the chairs & holding open the doors to the patio area, making us & our food get cold!

Whilst the hotel were not directly responsible, it would have been appreciated if the staff could have had a quiet word with the parents to at least challenge their blatant apathy to the mayhem being caused by their spawn. I actually felt sorry for the kids that their Parents were so disinterested in them & how their behaviour was perceived by most other people.

Other than that, we would have no hesitaion in recommending the Marriott, particularly to serious slope-users or first time visitors to Whistler.

Having just returned from a week in such a great hotel I felt I had to write a review about it.
We stayed in a studio suite, which had plenty of space for the two of us and loads of hanging space for wet ski clothes. The kitchen was very well equipped and came with complimentary popcorn and coffee that was great whilst sitting by the fire. The breakfasts were also very good and set us up for a day on the slopes - especially the waffles and maple syrup!
The hotel has a rental shop, which was very handy. You can rent your equipment and then walk out of the back door straight onto the slopes! They store your skis and snowboards too so they aren't cluttering up your room.
Everyone in the hotel was very friendly and helpful and we had a fantastic week. We would definitely stay here again.

Great Hotel

Excellent hotel, right on the slopes of Blackcomb means it's straight on with the ski's and down to the lifts in a morning. The hotel itself is pretty much as you would expect, nice without being too flash, but just what you need on a ski holiday and just right for the money. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the free shuttle bus drops off right outside the front door, so the main village is very accessible.
Excellent

This is a brilliant place to stay. The hotel is situated on a easy slope (lower cruiser) which takes you right down to the base of blackcomb. Our studio room was a huge compared to studio's in Europe. The Breakfast was such a bonus and with plenty of choice. A 10 minute free regular bus service takes you to Whistler town. Definately would stay here again
