This hotel is in a great location for anyone wanting to be downtown. It is a short walk to the convention center but.... The lobby and hallways are filthy, there are questionable people hanging out there at all hours and it is very noisy. Although it is cheap stay somewhere else.

Location and price couldn't be beat. The room was clean and the bathroom, while needing updating, wasn't gross. The lobby and halls definitely need updating, making the hotel look a lot seedier than the rooms really are. Staff was accommodating. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We picked this hotel because it was the cheapest well-advertised hotel in the city of Winnipeg, and besides, it was across from the Delta Winnipeg, a prohibitively expensive hotel where we were attending an event.

When we arrived, our first impression was that the place was quite dirty. The lobby had a slight cigarette odor (we are non-smokers), and the carpeting in the corridors was dirty. But when we entered our room, it was pretty clean. We were pleasantly surprised to find a small refrigerator, though we would have found a microwave helpful, too.

The beds, which were considered full-sized, were large enough that we could sleep in one of them comfortably.

The plumbing was all in working order.

The pool was not the cleanest of all, but it was tolerable.

The employees were very courteous. We got treated well, and were very fairly and flexibly offered the best price. Additionally, the charges we accrued for the little use of the phone we made was waived in the end, to our surprise.

When we could not figure out how to work the AC, an employee came up and helped us with no problem.

Most of our fellow guests were okay. One couple kept nagging us to "borrow" money. They seemed to be drunks. But no one else caused us any problems.

There was no laundry room in the building, and no computer in the lobby, but the Delta across the street, even though we were not guests there, gladly let us use theirs, because we had relatives staying there.

If we are ever back in Winnipeg, we would give the Carlton Inn strong consideration.

This was a comfortable hotel although the hallways seemed a little dark & dreary. I agree with the comments about the bums lurking nearby though I found that to be true all over Winnipeg (even near the nicer hotels). I walked the 10-15 mins. to & from the Greyhound station. There's a nice mall 2 or 3 blocks away as well. Also, there's the easy-to-use shuttle bus that takes you to the forks area if you're not up to the 25-ish minute walk.
My bathroom was comfortable and cleaned daily to my satisfaction. I didn't use the quite small outdoor pool since it didn't look over-inviting.
I choose this hotel for being right in the center of the downtown area and within walking distance to many attractions. I didn't spend much time in my hotel room though it was comfortable.
As far as a "con", I did wonder if this was a long-stay place since some people's rooms appeared furnished that way. They wedged their doors open which gave unpleasant odors of take-out food, among other things.
I would have liked to be able to open my room's window though that wasn't possible.
The front desk people were helpful even when I went to check out and their credit card machine didn't work.
