Hotel Fort Gary is an amazing historic hotel in downtown Winnipeg. It really is a castle, dating back from the 1900s, when the city was just being built.
The lobby was full of people, live piano music and a foyer lounge called 'The Palm Room'. It feels like a 1920 piano bar (because it is!). The food is fantastic and the service is fast and professional.
Since the hotel is a British design from 1900, the rooms are not big, but they are very nice and clean. The most comfortable beds in the world are features of this hotel. Believe me!
This hotel seems to be a hot spot among locals and many locals were in the lounge and the restaurants. This is always a good sign! Breakfast is a great feature at this hotel. Hot full breakfast, made to order! Nice!
Sundays, the hotel does a wonderful Sunday Brunch from 10a to 2p, which is full of locals. Another good sign.
The hotel doesn't have a pool/hot tub/work out centre IN the building (due to the age of the hotel), however, your room key card gives you free 24h access to those things at Fort Gary Place, the condo tower which is connected to the hotel via sky walk, so it is great.
The hotel is located in south downtown, which is mostly condo towers and resturants. The downtown shopping malls are a bit of a walk, howwbeit in the summer, the 10mins is not bad at all.
Also, just down the street (west) is Osborne Village, and very trendy section of downtown! Full of shops, pubs, eateries and a supermarket.
Public transit is easy to use from this hotel, and the train station is a few blocks away.
