My family stayed at the Astoria May 3 & 4, 2007. When I booked the hotel, it was in the Holiday Inn chain, but when I confirmed the room the night before, I found it was no longer a Holiday Inn (no one would tell me if they left or were dropped by the chain). No matter, they honored the reservation and price.

The hotel is older, but there have been upgrades to carpet, bedding etc. Check in was fine, but the beds were a bit harder than we like. The room was a good size, nothing unusually big and it was clean. It was quiet and the cover on the window kept things dark in the morning.

We chose this hotel for the location to the south of the city to head to the States without the hassles of morning traffic. The location was good; we were able to easily get into Winnipeg (to the Museum) and back with no problems, and then leave for the border with the same ease.

We stayed at this hotel to have a relaxing night away (first one in years--young children), and after when I booked how important it was to have a quiet room, was placed 2 floors above the bar! "Oh, it's not loud, we've never had complaints" she said. We went out and returned at 11:00pm to the booming base of music below. When asked to change rooms, the woman told her suervisor "I told them it was above the bar"! They only had smoking rooms left(and I have allergies), so we went to the Comfort Inn on Pembina Hwy and had a quiet night(what was left of it).
That was 3 years ago, and I'm still dissappointed enough to write this review.
