“Fantastic Stay”

Hampton Inn Winnipeg Manitoba

11 Apr 2008

My parents and I stayed at the Hampton Inn while attending the 2008 Tim Horton Brier. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are cozy, clean, very comfortable and very reasonable priced. The staff was amazing and more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure our stay was great!!! The complimentary breakfast and dining area was probably by far the nicest one we have ever seen. The best feature of this hotel for our stay was that it was only 4 or 5 short blocks to the MTS Center so we were able to park our car at the hotel and walk. We had no security problems with our vehicle being parked for 3 nights and we saw lots of security and police officers on the streets and in the skywalks. We would most definately stay here again if we need to be in the downtown area.

“Cozy and Comfortable”

I stay in hotels over 150+ nights a year on business travel, and have fairly high expectations for the condition of hotels and their service. This hotel exceeded all my expectations.

I had a very pleasant stay at this property. The hotel is in a great central downtown location, and I thought the room was one of the coziest and most comfortable I've had in a long time. The bed was terrific and soft, the service polite and friendly, and the room of good size.

I would gladly stay here again!

Stayed here one night on a family vacation. Nice facility -- new, clean and very helpful front desk folks. The breakfast was excellent and well-stocked (although the fact that they offered just the Toronto paper, and not the Winnipeg paper, seemed strange). Nice location, near the ballpark, the Forks, the river and the downtown shopping areas.

One complaint: the open parking lot with no real sign of security. This is the downtown area of a major Canadian city. A few very shady looking characters openly loitered among the cars parked behind the hotel, with no rebuff from anyone associated with the property. Not surprising to read of other guests cars being broken into. The simple posting of a security guard on the property would seem to be enough to prevent this and provide guests with some extra peace of mind.

With that aside, this is a nice place to stay with children, as the on-site pool and laundry facilities are excellent, and the front desk staff was great in helping us find nearby kid-friendly restaurants and attractions, providing maps and advice just like you would get from a concierge as a hotel costing twice as much.

This hotel would have rated 5 stars for us, if not for the incredible traffic noise problem!

My husband and I planned a one-night romantic getaway in our own city, and chose this hotel because of a fairly reasonable rate for a king suite with whirlpool, its newness and proximity to a restaurant we wanted to go to for dinner.

The hotel is clean, comfortable, beautifully furnished and feels luxurious when you enter the lobby and then your room. The pool area is small, but clean and adequate, and the breakfast is very nice.

However, our room faced Main Street, which is busy 24 hours a day. We heard general traffic noises, along with squealing tires, sirens and loud motorcycles, as well as the grating of wheels from the trains on nearby railway tracks, all night. We barely slept. If it had not been for the fact that we had no vehicle and were being picked up in the morning, we would have packed up and gone home to sleep. We tried turning up the air conditioning fan for extra white noise, but even that did not help.

A mention of the noise problem elicited an apology from the desk clerk. I asked her if rooms on the opposite side were less noisy, and her response was "they can be", whatever that means.

If you can tolerate noise or have a pair of excellent ear plugs, do not hesitate to stay at this hotel, as every other aspect is top notch.
