“Terrible Customer Service”

Super 8 Niagara Falls

29 Feb 2008

Although the rooms were nice and comfortable the customer service at this hotel was atrocious. Staff were rude and not helpful at all.

When we checked in the FRONT OFFICE MANAGER was rude and she also refused to allow me to pay my bill the day before my departure.

I work at a hotel and ALWAYS allow a guest to pay their bill whenever they choose. In fact, I work at a Super 8, so I don't understand why an advance folio was too difficult for even a manager to prepare.

Conveniently I was not informed of the additional 3% surcharge for a "destination tax" when I checked in, despite trying to confirm my rate on three separate occasions.

As far as I knew, I was going to pay $335 for my stay which quickly became $345 because of the additional tax. However, on my online booking confirmation the rate that was stated would not be honoured by the staff.

I think this is ridiculous, because the front office manager refused to let me pay the total amount that my confirmation from "www.super8.com" stated and insisted that the website I booked at should have given me the correct total and that there is nothing she could do.

When I told her I booked on the chain's website she just shrugged and turned away.

On top of all of this, at check in I was informed that no damage deposit would be taken on my credit card, because we were in a smoking room. However, upon checking online, I realized that one pre-auth was taken at check in for the room and then an additional pre-auth was taken the next day for no apparent reason which the front office staff could not explain.

All I can say is make sure you are aware of any additional surcharges because the staff of this hotel will not inform you of them.

Also, don't even bother try to pay your bill ahead of time, because the staff will not allow that either.

As far as I knew, employee discounts should apply at any hotel in this chain, however, despite it being off-peak season this hotel refused to honour an employee rate.

Overall, I will not be back to this hotel, I will choose a different chain next time, because they refused to give employee discounts anyway, so visiting this hotel holds no paticular appeal.

“Expensive place to visit”

Super 8 Niagara Falls

New Jersey

Last week in August, 2007. Stayed at Super 8...read mixed reviews before hand. Actually a nice hotel; people seemed helpful but weren't really knowledgeable about the transportation facilities. Gave erroneous information. Awakened by fire alarm one morning with no explanation of what to do. Stood in parking lot for quite a while; when we got back to the room in our night clothes the cleaning staff wanted to know if we wanted the room done that day. What was that about. Continental breakfast was coffee and one day juice. Pancake house next door was overly expensive and not that great food wise. No comments from hotel staff about the inconvenience in fire alarm and evacuation, no free breakfast or lunch at the Pancase House next door, and no deduction in bill for inconvenience.

Good place to eat and reasonable priced is the Four Brothers...very personable, very rasonable, and very good food.

A lot of walking, lots to see, including for children. But everything from food to transportation to souveniers in so expensive.

Next time would stay on the American side.

Grey Line tours were good...first driver was excellent; second driver was ok but not as good as first driver. But got to see things probably wouldn't have otherwise, so would recommend the tours.

Falls are breath taking; best part of the trip.

“United Church Trip - Loved It”

Super 8 Niagara Falls

17 Jul 2007

We have been to Niagara Falls so many times I've lost count but this was the first trip for many on our church trip. This Super 8 was SUPER to my church family. Many commented on wanting to come back and
stay here again. We really appreciate how friendly and accomodating you all were to us. Thank you once again and I will continue to tell everybody I talk to about the trip to stay at your Super 8. Fran Allen, Xenia Ohio

“Good budget concious hotel near the Falls and Casino”

This is the third time we have stayed at the Super 8 in Niagara. The staff have always been friendly, courteous and helpful. The rooms are nothing great to speak of, but they are at least clean and roomy although starting to look a little tired. It's a good budget hotel if you're doing a one-nighter at the casino.

We have stayed in several hotels in Niagara ranging from extreme budget (never go there again) to luxurious. Among the best but most expensive are the FallsView Casino hotel, Embassy Suites and Hilton.

This hotel is pretty much middle of the road. Not a dump although beginning to show signs of age, but certainly not one of the most desirable hotels in Niagara. It's a few minutes by car to either casino or the touristy areas of Niagara. When the other main hotels are charging 300+ a night, you can usually get a room here for around 100.

Again it's no Embassy Suites, but for a short one-night stay on a budget, it's a comfortable stay and they'll treat you right.

    • Liked — Reasonable price while still being close to the casinos. Good for a 1 or 2 night stay on a budget
    • Disliked — Room was looking a little tired on this trip. A refresh could be used. TV reception was poor

“Some Mighty Hard Mattresses!”

Okay, so obviously no Super 8 is going to be the Waldorf-Astoria. What we were looking for was a clean, reasonably priced room not too far from the action, so to speak. And for the most part that's what we got. We stayed in the superior whirlpool suite for $129 a night, which was fair. The room was supposedly non-smoking but there was an unmistakably smoky smell coming through the vents and in the room. Maybe that's just typical for old hotels, but I don't remember it seeming that strong elsewhere.

The room and bathroom was large and spacious and we had no complaints about the service, although we asked very little of staff. The decor is pretty '70's but this didn't bug us really. What was annoying was: the shady $4 per night "Marketing Levy" that they don't tell you anything about beforehand, and the beds: we like firm mattresses, but these ones were a little much. So if you like a VERY firm mattress and a clean room for good value, the Super 8 will probably fit the bill fine. We will stay somewhere a little more upscale next time, but we don't regret our 2 nights at the Super 8. .

Oh, and be prepared to walk, unless all you're planning on visiting are the "Gentlemen's Lounge" across the street and the nearby pawn shops.
