We spent three nights at the Villa Alexandrea in late July, 2006. While it might not be the most ornate B & B along Niagara Parkway, it is a good value at a price which is lower when compared to some others. We stayed in the second floor Gorge Room, which has a comfortable queen sized bed and in-suite shower only. The room was clean and comfortable and included a TV with cable.
The room also looks out over a magnificantly groomed garden (one of our hosts won an award in 2004 for it) which is a good place to relax. The house itself has several large sitting rooms, including one just off from the guests dining area.
The breakfasts themselves were relatively basic, but hearty. They included a variety of fruits, along with eggs, bacon and alternately potatoes or french toast. They are served in a sort of family style, so you can take as much or little fruit as you like. Usually the main course is served in a way for two or three to share. If you're wanting a good "stick to your ribs" morning meal to start the day, this will work for you.
Our hostess Maria was very helpful in recommending points of interest and providing directions. The property tends to attract an international clientele since she speaks several languages in addition to English, such as Italian and French. We shared breakfast with visitors from Japan, England and Singapore (along with Canada and the U.S.) while we were there.
The property is located directly across from a walkway which is only about 10-15 minutes from the falls. We drove over to the falls and used free parking at the Fallsview Casino, at Maria's suggestion. (sometimes, to get the parking you have to sign up for a players card at the casino, but it's free and there's no obligation to play in the casino if you don't want to) We did see some fellow guests walk the distance easily.
So, if you looking for a solid breakfast and pleasant surroundings, at a competitive price, definitely give Villa Alexandrea a try.
P.S.: Don't be startled by the parrot at the front door. I guess his job is to greet every guest when they arrive.
