“OK Inn, Terrible Restaurant - Don't Go Here!!”

Oban Inn and Spa

A group of us went to the Oban Inn for lunch prior to attending the theater at Shaw Festival. Having been there before, we were surprised to see that the old dining room had been replaced with the Tony de Luca restaurant.

The service was terrible - the wait staff was inattentive, disappearing for long periods of time. On top of that, the food was awful- my sister and I ordered the Steak Frites, thinking we were treating ourselves at $22 per plate. The steak was no bigger than a chicken wing and both were significantly over-cooked (medium well after we had ordered rare and medium rare respectively). Our mother had the lobster crepes (also $22) and got two the size of an egg-roll. The rest of the party had pasta that was undercooked and flavorless. There was no salt or pepper on the table, and we had to get up ourselves to retrieve the pepper mill from the waitstaff station.

We will never go back to the Oban again - the overpriced, poorly prepared food and absence of service was the biggest disappointment for a facility that once had more glory.

Two bed deluxe room had very comfortable beds in a good sized room but bathroom was tiny. Room had been modernized with nice furnishings. The Tony de Luca Restaurant was overpriced with ridiculously small portions. I ordered quebec squab and what I got was a tiny wing and leg that sat lonesomely on the plate. The breakfast was also poor with small selection of fruits, cheeses, and cereals. Breakfast breads consisted of danish and thin slices of walnut bread. All in all, the restaurant is far from four star as touted on their website.

Oban Inn and Spa

After viewing the Oban Inn on their website we thought finally a beautiful old building with an airy modern clean interior.
On arrival we find that the only pretty airy clean atmosphere is in the spa not the rooms! The spa is small but pretty, beiges and contemporary sedate colours.
Our room on the other hand was horribly overpriced. Ugly faded floral bedspread, ugly cheap lamps and art, old red carpets in the hallway. Basically cheap and tasteless. Also for $340.00 a night I would expect room service if even only a bottle of wine. There is no room service or mini bar. The queen bed also looked a little to lived in.
We were attending a Steven Page concert at the Jackson Triggs winery, a spectacular place. There are people who want an alternative to ugly dust laden silk flowers, faded floral bed spreads and tacky faux country touches.
Its high time that the hotel business elivated itself to the level of sophistication of the wineries in this area.
The only positive was the food. Its was very good, fresh and local. The diningroom was ugly.
We ended up not staying and driving home from the concert instead.

Our room was stunning - corner lake view, fireplace, giant bed, great decor. The complementary bottle of wine was Weir Estates. The pedicure was 90 minutes. Restaurant Tony DeLuca was an incredible culinary experience. The location of the hotel is perfect for walks. And the service was friendly and attentive. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.

“A super spa experience”

I recently visited the spa at the Oban Inn and was very impressed with everything from the service to the peaceful atmosphere. Every little detail has been attended to from the furniture to the gently flowing water falls to the attentive staff. The view from the many windows and the inviting fireplace give warmth and relaxation to the visitor. This has truely been one of the best spa experiences I have had.
