A group of us went to the Oban Inn for lunch prior to attending the theater at Shaw Festival. Having been there before, we were surprised to see that the old dining room had been replaced with the Tony de Luca restaurant.
The service was terrible - the wait staff was inattentive, disappearing for long periods of time. On top of that, the food was awful- my sister and I ordered the Steak Frites, thinking we were treating ourselves at $22 per plate. The steak was no bigger than a chicken wing and both were significantly over-cooked (medium well after we had ordered rare and medium rare respectively). Our mother had the lobster crepes (also $22) and got two the size of an egg-roll. The rest of the party had pasta that was undercooked and flavorless. There was no salt or pepper on the table, and we had to get up ourselves to retrieve the pepper mill from the waitstaff station.
We will never go back to the Oban again - the overpriced, poorly prepared food and absence of service was the biggest disappointment for a facility that once had more glory.
