“Weekend at the ARC”

A friend and I went to ARC - The Hotel, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for the weekend, in celebration of my 25th birthday. We were lucky enough to find a special-rate package that included admission to the National Gallery and The Musem of Civilization AND two-nights at ARC. Otherwise, it may have been a little pricey for us.

The hotel itself was beautiful and the service was incredible. We were offered champagne and chocolate at the front door, and the clerk at the front desk was pleasant and very helpful. The hotel itself was classy, though small... and overnight valet parking (with ina and out priveledges) was super cheap! ARC also offers smoking and non-smoking rooms, which is great for those of us who haven't kicked the habit.

Though we were out-and-about for most of the weekend, the time we spent at the hotel was peaceful and relaxing. Room service breakfast was fantastic, and the hotel was really quiet! Next time I am in Ottawa, I'll stay at ARC, and be sure to check out the lounge and library downstairs.

My only criticism of the hotel is that the television set was quite outdated... but it worked just fine. Overall I would say this is by far the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in. It was conveniently located, and again, the service was simply incredible!

“Cute for the business traveller”

ARC - The Hotel

My husband and I loved the decor of this hotel. Very modern and chic, and the rooms were soothing.
I think it is way overpriced for the size of the rooms. It is the tiniest room I've EVER stayed in. But the bed? The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in and I need to find out what kind it is! I had the best night's sleep in a loooong time.
The window options were to keep them open, letting the building across from us see everything, or keep them shut, which made for a very dark room.
We were barely at the hotel, just slept, had the valet take care of our car (very prompt!) and enjoyed the free Starbucks coffee and teas (our favourite extra).
If you are visiting Ottawa on business and are a single traveller, this hotel is for you. It's in the heart of downtown and close to everything you want/need to get to! Oh and for the clean-freaks, like me, our room was spotless!

While this hotel is by no means below average and I only stayed for one night, while the common areas are about average for this kind of hotels the rooms furniture and decor fell below par for a "Ottawa's only boutique hote" line!
I've stayed in numerous smaller luxury hotels and this one unfortunately scored low in the room department.

Check in was speedy and friendly. Valet was also as good.
Overall didn't have time to try a lot of things here but it definitely needs some upgrades inside the rooms.

Location is however very good and if you like the smaller hotels with more personalized service then this is for you.

“disapointed.....”

ARC - The Hotel

30 Sep 2007

I read and had really good reviews on the hotel but the only thing I like about this hotel is the girl at the front desk ( extremly helpful and nice) and the bed. The first room we had was really dark and small, so we asked to have another room. The rooms are really small and I don't like the design ( and I usually love modern minimalism). The girl at the front desk is the only one in the staff that actually smiled and helped us. We also heard the other guests in their rooms. Also, when we call and we choose the french option, I'm expecting that the person on the phone can actually speak french ( wich it wasn't the case). If you still wanna go there.... don't take the room 414....

“Not worth it...”

ARC - The Hotel

23 Sep 2007

I have stayed at several different hotels while visiting Ottawa and decided to give Arc a try after reading some favourable press about it some time ago. I was very disappointed with my experience there. The Classic Queen Room was quite small - moreso than I would have expected at the price I paid. Additionally, the noise from adjoining rooms - regular level things like television and normal phone conversation was unacceptable.

I would not recommend Arc to other travelers - if you are looking for a good boutique hotel, look elsewhere.
