Most of the time, when you see a hotel or other accomodations have a 2-star rating, you expect the worst. I came to Ottawa expecting a small hotel with not much to offer. Fortunately, my expectations were wrong.
The hotel is located right off the 417, just east on Innes Rd. You really can't miss it! It's rather large, really, and easy to find the main door. Once you get inside, it has a very nice lounge with lots of padded arm rest seats to choose from, as well as snack and beverage machines. The front desk clerks were very nice and helpful with whatever I needed. Straight ahead as you walk in the main door is the pool, which isn't large, but big enough. After checking in, I walked to my room and was a bit surprised I must admit. I was expecting a couch or something, since I only had one bed. Nope, no couch, but I did have a nice large chair as well as a desk/chair combination. Not bad, no great. I quickly scanned the television to find out what channels they had. Again, not a great selection if you don't understand French much.
No Food Network, no Comedy Network, no Superstation. Meh....what can you do, really? It was a clean room, regardless, though I still haven't figured out why a towel rack was INSIDE the shower. Doesn't make much sense to me, in the long run. Anyway...Around the hotel is great for a fast-food person. A 2 min walk away is a Wendy's....you can see it from the hotel. A gas station is next door to the hotel and has all the normal convenience store products. If you don't mind walking a bit, about 5-7 min walk east is a Tim Horton's, Subway, and Swiss Chalet. I didn't even see the latter 2 until the last night there, since they're behind the Tim Horton's. There is also a Denny's about 10 more min walk down the street, and if you really need, a Costco next to the gas station. Regarding local attractions....not hard to get to at all. Cab drivers really seemed to know this place, and the 417 is so close that it's the main way to get anywhere in the city from here. It's about a $25 cab ride from the airport to the hotel, and a bit less if you're going from hotel to downtown(cost me just under $25 from thoe hotel to the Civic Center). The hotel is about a 5 min walk away from the 125(and others?)bus route. That takes you just about anywhere you need to go in the city, via othe routes as well. Overall, not a bad time at the hotel. It appeared to be fairly popular, as everyone that came to the hotel knew how to find it easily. It's in the midst of some food and not far from entertainment. A good price too, for anyone not wanting a ton of extra amenities. I recommend it!!
