“OK Hotel”

Travelodge Ottawa East

OK Motel. Rooms are somewhat dirty. Bathroom is small. Afraid to touch anything in the room. Did not use pool since rooms were not very clean.

ROOM: Small and dirty.

STAFF: Very friendly.

VIEW: None

ACCESS: Only way to get in from one direction is through the gas station. Close to highway.

VALUE: OK. Reasonable rates for Ottawa but I'm sure there are other places close by that are the same or better.

Would not recommend this hotel at all. Only if your by yourself and been on the road for a long time and need a place to stay.

My wife and I stayed at the Travelodge East on Friday, August 13 for one night. We were in town for a wedding and this was the closest hotel. First of all, we normally don't stay at Traveloges, but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was quite small, but very clean - which was most important to us. The room was in a bad location (near the elevator and ice machine), but it still wasn't too loud. We were only there for a very brief time, but it served us very well. The staff were friendly and the breakfast (although a bit ghetto - toast and coffee in a hotel room) was fine. Overall the Travelodge is a decent place to stay if you're looking for some where cheap and if you don't need to be downtown Ottawa this is the place.

“Great value”

My family stayed here during our first 5 days in ottawa, the staff were very helpful, and had a sense of humour, the rooms were well equiped and clean, we have two small children so the huge swimming pool came in handy on those rainy days. The breakfast in the morning was the best, buffet style, eat as much as you like, and we tried. It was delicious. We did'nt find the people of ottawa very friendly, so not sure if we would come back, but if we did we would come here, as it is great value for money.

“Good times!”

Most of the time, when you see a hotel or other accomodations have a 2-star rating, you expect the worst. I came to Ottawa expecting a small hotel with not much to offer. Fortunately, my expectations were wrong.
The hotel is located right off the 417, just east on Innes Rd. You really can't miss it! It's rather large, really, and easy to find the main door. Once you get inside, it has a very nice lounge with lots of padded arm rest seats to choose from, as well as snack and beverage machines. The front desk clerks were very nice and helpful with whatever I needed. Straight ahead as you walk in the main door is the pool, which isn't large, but big enough. After checking in, I walked to my room and was a bit surprised I must admit. I was expecting a couch or something, since I only had one bed. Nope, no couch, but I did have a nice large chair as well as a desk/chair combination. Not bad, no great. I quickly scanned the television to find out what channels they had. Again, not a great selection if you don't understand French much.
No Food Network, no Comedy Network, no Superstation. Meh....what can you do, really? It was a clean room, regardless, though I still haven't figured out why a towel rack was INSIDE the shower. Doesn't make much sense to me, in the long run. Anyway...Around the hotel is great for a fast-food person. A 2 min walk away is a Wendy's....you can see it from the hotel. A gas station is next door to the hotel and has all the normal convenience store products. If you don't mind walking a bit, about 5-7 min walk east is a Tim Horton's, Subway, and Swiss Chalet. I didn't even see the latter 2 until the last night there, since they're behind the Tim Horton's. There is also a Denny's about 10 more min walk down the street, and if you really need, a Costco next to the gas station. Regarding local attractions....not hard to get to at all. Cab drivers really seemed to know this place, and the 417 is so close that it's the main way to get anywhere in the city from here. It's about a $25 cab ride from the airport to the hotel, and a bit less if you're going from hotel to downtown(cost me just under $25 from thoe hotel to the Civic Center). The hotel is about a 5 min walk away from the 125(and others?)bus route. That takes you just about anywhere you need to go in the city, via othe routes as well. Overall, not a bad time at the hotel. It appeared to be fairly popular, as everyone that came to the hotel knew how to find it easily. It's in the midst of some food and not far from entertainment. A good price too, for anyone not wanting a ton of extra amenities. I recommend it!!

Been back to this one a few times; Travelodge East is right on the main highway from Montréal to Ottawa (417 @ Innes Rd) and is a proper modern four-story hotel with elevators, inside corridors, an indoor pool not far from the lobby and an attached restaurant.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, with air conditioners, colour cable TV and free local 'phone calls.

Restaurant is moderate to midrange in price and of good quality (a proper sit-down meal and not fast food). The indoor pool is small (deep end is 5'6") and pool facilities for the kids are provided.

Cash and debit are accepted but reserved rooms will not be held beyond late afternoon without a credit card. A $20 deposit may be required when checking in.

Parking is free; the hôtel is right on the main trans-Canada highway but is east of most points in the city (not downtown nor on the transitway but good for motorists - while fuel and additional restaurants are next door or nearby, most shopping and tourism activities are too far to walk).

By car, it should be possible to reach downtown Ottawa or the airport (YOW) in under 20 minutes.

Rates are typically somewhere around $C100/night for a modern and comfortable room near the 417.

If you're driving to Ottawa but don't need to stay right downtown, this is a hard deal to beat.
