Wow.... seriously.
A collegue and I are scheduled to be in Ottawa for one night, requiring two rooms. We book two rooms for a Wednesday. On Monday, I call and extend the stay to two nights on one of the rooms.
I also asked since this was booked on my collegues credit card and I was arriving a night before him if I needed to bring his card, or do anything else in order to check in since I would NOT have his credit card with me. They said no.
Upon arriving however, I was told they needed a credit card. Then, they told me they cancelled the reservation for the second night with no explanation. Telling me if I wanted a second night I would have to take a smoking room. This of course is not what I booked, but did not seem to matter as they had already sold the room that I had reserved, and there was nothing they were going to do about it.
I was forced to pay for my room with cash, they told me I could have a refund the next day when my collegue arrived to move the payment to his credit card. Of course, when this happened I was then told (by the same person as before) that he couldn't do a refund, and that they would have to mail it to me.
Not only was all of this lousy, but they charged me more for the room on the second night than on the first, and then booked my collegue to the smoking room. No apology, or discount, or anything.
I also didn't get my points, not that I will ever sleep at a travel lodge again, anyway....
An early reviewer talked about the tired look of all of the furniture, and the rooms, I can attest to that. My room was tired, and musty smelling. What comes off as a quaint inn in the photos is really not what you actually get.
Lastly, the 'continental' breakfast. I will preface my case as saying I hate all continental breakfasts, but this one was particularly bad The coffee was cold, the orange juice was warm, and they crammed multiple pieces of mismatched bread, obviously from different loaves into a drawer for the guests to eat the next morning. One of the cereal dispensers was also empty for both days I was there....
This was a truly horrible experience. Business travel can be hard enough, but when the hotel is this bad, it really puts a strong emphasis on this.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially at this price point. If I had to put an actual value on the service it would be closer to 60/night... not the nearly 150 I paid.
