We pulled up to the hotel and seriously considered canceling our reservation without ever setting foot inside. The exterior gives the feel of a 1970's roadside motel, and the parking is very cramped. We were relieved, however, when we went inside and found a modern lobby and friendly staff.
Good points:
The suites are very spacious, literally two full-size rooms, two bathrooms, and a well-equipped kitchenette. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, and while the room's decor was dated, everything in the room was pretty clean. The front desk staff were great and quite on top of things. The pool was wonderful, and was one of the few pools on our trip that was actually heated to a comfortable temperature. The sauna looked very inviting as well, but with small kids in tow, we opted to skip it. The continental breakfast was good, with toast, bagels, pastries, muffins, cereal, yogurt, juice, coffee, and a nice selection of teas. I found the room rate to be reasonable for what we had; having said that, we were on a discounted rate.
The downside:
The 'fitness center' is a few exercise machines that look about 20 years old - they probably work fine, but don't expect anything modern. The second floor is both smoking and non-smoking, and there is a terrible air freshener installed somewhere near the elevator which is located in the middle between the two sections. Which means the air when you first step off the elevator is just terrible, and the air in the entire non-smoking section of the second floor smells stale. The kitchenette was functional, but dated, and many of the dishes were worn or chipped. As well, we didn't discover until the next morning that the fridge was actually turned off, so we ended up discarding a few perishables.
This hotel is big - much bigger than it looks from the street. Be prepared for a long walk down a narrow hallway to get to your room!
If I were in the area and needed a room, I would probably stay here again. Suggestions for visitors - if you are scent-sensitive, ask to see the room before I accepted it, to make sure it wasn't a non-smoking room on a smoking floor. And if you plan to use the kitchenette, make sure everything is turned on!!
