“Generally what we expected”

Auberge Bonaparte

My husband and I stayed one night for our 20th anniversary. There were no surprises based on all the feedback on this site. Our room was on the third floor with a view of the courtyard. I asked for this in hopes of a quiet room based on others comments, and it was. The room was very clean, with a nice and spacious bathroom. The rooms are rather simple not luxurious by any means. We had dinner on the premises, the food is good but not great. The service felt inconsistent and at times we were forgotten. My salmon came undercooked and when I asked to have it cooked more, it seemed to take far too long, at which point my husband was done his entree. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and was good. We would stay there again, but try some where else for dinner.

“Great hotel in beautiful Vieux Port, but a little loud on weekend nights”

Montreal is a great city and this is a really great hotel in the "Old Port". The hotel was really nice and the breakfast (included with the cost of the room) was soooo amazingly good! Have the french toast! In fact, the breakfast and the location of the hotel were my favorite parts. It's a 3 course breakfast consisting of fruit or yogurt first, then toast or croissant and finally your breakfast entree. As I already said, the french toast is the best I've ever had (and I'm not a french toast fan).

The old port is NOT in the center of the city, but it's just a short walk and metro ride away. The streets, churches and cobble stone streets of the old port were so beautiful and we loved going for walks every day even though we'd seen everything a ton of times.

The hotel was clean and the staff were very helpful and polite. I personally found the female staffers much warmer and the male staffer a bit cold, but still very polite.

The only thing that wasn't too great about this hotel was that there are a few popular bars next to the hotel (double edged sword!) and on weekend nights (Friday/Saturday) it can get pretty loud. Approximately from 11 to 3am you will hear very loud bar patrons walking the streets. One night I was continuously awakened by what sounded like a metal dumpster being pushed (without wheels) down the street, making this awful high pitched screeching. This noise was bad, but not the fault of the hotel.

*Restaurant suggestion - Holder, a steak house. Try the butterscotch dessert!

“Loved the hospitality!”

I agree completely with so many of the previous reviews about this hotel. My husband and I based our hotel choice by reviewing Trip Advisor. Located one block from St. Paul street with a variety of eating establishments and shopping. We certainly were not disappointed by choosing the Auberge Bonaparte! Upon arriving we were upgraded to a room on the 3rd floor with a king bed and wirl tub.
The rooms were very quiet and clean. The (all inclusive) breakfast in the dining room was amazing. Cressonts that melt in your mouth and you have to try the crepes! Service in the dining room and at the front desk was exceptional. Every front desk clerk was happy to give advise or dining suggestions. We had an excellent meal at the Bonaparte resteraunt the first night we arrived. Resonably priced (140.00 Cdn $ including wine). We also ate at Mondavie which is located a short walk from this hotel. (1Rue St. Paul) Nice meal and good service. The last night of our stay we had reservations (recommended and booked by the front desk) at Gibby's. Located only three blocks from our hotel on 298 Place d'Youville. What a gem this place is!
It is located in the 200 year-old-Youville Stables. IT is worth seeing the building! Our meal was marvelous and the service was excellent as well. Overall I would highly recommend dining at all three above mentioned places, however, the Bonaparte and Gibby's Restaraunts are definetely high on our list. You must spent time at St. Catherines street (shopping) and visit a pub (or two) on Crescent street. We are not gamblers by no means, but were told to go see the Casino. You have to see it to believe it. It's located in the old France Pavillion (Expo) and is very impressive. Our Montreal experience was great! Everyone we met could speak (English and French) and was extremely friendly. I can hardly wait to plan another Montreal holiday!

We stayed at the Bonaparte in October and found the overall service excellent. The breakfast is amazing but we found the restaurant food to be average and overpriced.
