My wife and I decided to check out Bocata on the recommendation of our concierge at Le Petit Hotel (see review).
The restaurant is old world, with stone walls and lots of warm woods. Irregularities in the stone have dried wax clinging to them from the candles that add to the warmth and romance of the room. The background music is lively but never overt. The mood is relaxed and the service is outstanding (thanks to Eric).
The menu is based on Spanish tapas style, but is more elegant. The items are beautifully presented and served on wooden cutting boards. The items are larger than tapas portions but not quite a small entree. They are perfect for sharing or would satisfy those with a small appetite.
We started with pata negra (a black Iberian ham from a wild pig that feasts on acorns)....at first the price seems extraordinary, essentially a dollar/gram or $1000/kg! It is beautifully presented and worth every penny....we ordered it twice.
We had the meat plate and a cheese plate. The meat was incredible, the cheese not so much. Good luck deciding on what to eat next...everything sounded incredible. I cant say enough about the scallops with Foie gras...no I'm not kidding! Done perfectly I guarantee you will have a mouthgasm. As stated previously the menu is perfect for sharing, your senses will be overloaded.
The wine list is extensive! So much so that you are handed the "wine bible" upon seating. There are also by the glass wines from $9-$45. Proseco for$8 was refreshing .
Dessert....what can I say. I have not had food this delicious and prepared with such care and attention to detail in a long time, if ever. At least not at this price.
The service, ambiance, and food have set a new bar for us in dining. If you own a restaurant or want to, go see the boys at Bocato and see how it's done. If you are tired of being disappointed by mediocre service and food, I strongly suggest you do yourself a favor and head over for dinner. Want to impress someone? This is the place. These guys are only in their late 20's!!!! The future looks bright.
Our entire meal with 2 drinks each, dessert and two orders of pata negra was about $160....I forgot to mention the beet salad....order it. It's heaven on a plate.
Reservations recommended and a must on Thurs, Fri, Sat
