This hotel had a brilliant location! It couldn't have been better. Right in the heart of things without being noisy or obnoxious. It was a great place to stay and the croissants were yummy! The service was very good but not outstanding. It depended on who you got each day. We did get some good restaurant suggestions and really enjoyed our stay. It was nice to have a little fridge in the room so we could buy wine, local beer, or some lovely cheese! Montreal is a great city and we'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Make sure you eat at L'Express!!! Outstanding!

“French ambiance with a few small negatives.”

We stayed at the Hotel-Studio Anne ma soeur Anne for 4 nights in mid-September 2007. Our room was a standard double for $130 CAD/night but we were given a 10% discount with our AAA card. With the high Canadian taxes the total came to $145/night CAD.

This hotel is located in the “hip” Plateau area on busy Rue St Denis. There are lots of restaurants and stores nearby in every price range but the incessant traffic prevents the area from being truly quaint. The hotel is located exactly between two subway stations requiring a short hike to transportation. Upon finding the hotel we carried our bags up the steep steps to the hotel. The reception was little more than a small office with a desk. The woman at the desk spoke perfect English and answered our many questions.

After lugging our bags up another flight of steep steps we arrived to our room. It was small, simple, clean and included free WIFI and cable TV. Folding doors revealed a small “kitchen closet” complete with 2 burners, coffee maker, refrigerator, a full size microwave oven, a toaster, sink, dishes, pans and utensils. Actually one could cook a meal here but we limited our use to toasting bread or making grilled sandwiches. Each morning housekeeping replenished the complimentary juice, bottled water, and cream for the supplied coffee. They also washed all the dishes left in the sink, a much appreciated service. Croissants were left in a small bag on our door each morning to complete the breakfast.

Our window looked out to the balcony area/stairs which supplied the only area in the hotel to socialize. This was a negative because the wood blinds did not guarantee total privacy. When I asked to change to a room that did not open to the balcony I was told that all the standard rooms looked out to this area. This was also a problem because if I left the window open someone could actually climb in. When I pointed this out to the front desk I was told that the back area was fenced, private, and cameras watched the area. I kept my window closed and locked except when in the room.

In conclusion this is a relatively inexpensive, small hotel in an interesting section of Montreal. The rooms are small but adequate and the small kitchen closet is a definite plus. The furnishings and bathroom are simple but clean. If you don’t mind stairs and a short hike to the subway this hotel is a good value.

“Cute hotel, cute neighborhood”

Very nice small place in a fun, "young" area with lots of shopping, restaurants, etc. I booked a room with an outdoor terrace which was unfortunately too cold to really use even though it was only Columbus Day weekend. My only complaints about the room were that it smelled of cigarette smoke and the bed was not all that comfortable. Otherwise, they give you water, oj & croissant for breakfast. WIth the mini-fridge and coffee maker I was able to purchase tea-making supplies from the mini mart around the corner and had a great start to each day. I stayed here alone, and not once did I feel unsafe. I found the staff friendly and polite. If I were booking a trip to Montreal by myself again, I would definitely choose to stay here.

“Comfortable and perfect for the price!”

Anne Ma Soeur Anne

11 Sep 2007

My friend and I were thrilled to find that our simple studio room was equipped with a kitchenette, small refrigerator, toaster oven, TV, and Murphy full bed. There was not much room when the Murphy was pulled down, but this did not bother us. The decor was simple (Ikea) and thoughtfully done-- nothing seems done to be cheap.

The help was very nice and they were willing to speak English to make us more comfortable. A young woman took us to our room, showed us the space, the amenities, and asked if we had any questions. It was very easy and open.

Anne Ma Soeur Anne is in a stellar location on St. Denis-- close to many restaurants and Mont-Royal metro station-- rather than the big tourist area near Vieux-Port and Downtown, which seemed to lack character like St. Laurent and St. Denis.

We loved the neighborhood and our room as young women. The bathroom was clean, spacious, and with a hair dryer. They give you complimentary croissants waiting, hanging on the handle, in the morning, perfect to toast while you make some coffee.

I would definitely stay there again and so I have it an "excellent" rating for its room, location, and service in relation to the price.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The kitchenette and location
    • Disliked — The lack of space-- but it was just a studio, and we could put up the Murphy bed if we needed more space.

“Good Bed and Breakfast style”

Anne Ma Soeur Anne

27 Aug 2007

We enjoyed our stay at Anne MA. The only complaint if any was the bed was a bit small and the television was a 13 inch. Other than that the other reviews are right on the money. Good value and great room overall. The parking was $6 Canadian for 24 hours. Would stay again!
