We got a great deal ($170US) for our "Moderate" room, on new years weekend. It was a courtyard-view room on the 4th floor but it was a corner room so it felt like we got a suite because of the separate living room area with couch. By upgrading $50 for the city view, or $100 for the river view, I don't think we would've gotten a corner room, rather something just the size of the living area. The bathroom had a broken faucet handle that needed to be pushed in right to work, and turned the wrong way. The main door to the room didn't close very well either. The bed and furniture was comfortable but not 4 star quality. Overall, the grandeur of this beautiful hotel gives it the 4 stars, but the comfort of the rooms are more like 3 star quality. I still feel like we got our money's worth just to have been able to stay here for that price, it was definitely a memorable experience. The parking for guests is $26CAN/night, and a tour of the hotel is $8CAN per person. The location is right in the center of the old town, with the Funiculare (outdoor elavator) right next to it running down to the lower town. It's about a 5-10 min walk to Rue St. Jean where are the major stores are. The Terrasse Dufferin (wooden boardwalk) runs right alongside it, with beautiful views of the St. Lawrence River.

“Fantastic hotel in perfect location”

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

We flew from Calgary to Quebec for a 3 day break to experience the history, quaintness and character of the city at Christmas. The hotel was perfect - we had no complaints at all. We were given a 6th floor room with a beautiful view of the St. Lawrence river. The bed in our room was extremely comfy and we slept well all 3 nights. The hotel was spotless and beautifully decorated for Christmas, inside and outside.
On the first night we ordered in-room dining, which was beautifully presented and quite reasonable. We enjoyed breakfast in the Cafe de la Terrasse and had a lovely evening with drinks and snacks in the hotel bar (which has stunning views of the river). The only disappointment was that the pool is being renovated, so we were entitled to use the Hilton's pool instead. (There was no noise at any time from the renovations). However, we didn't make it to the Hilton but would likely have used the pool at the Frontenac if it had been open.
The service at the hotel was impeccable - we felt really well looked after and definitely intend to stay at this hotel next time we visit Quebec City.

I felt like a princess in a castle!!! The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is an exceptional hotel. Everything was exactly what we hoped for- the service, food and location are sensational and our room was fresh, updated and clean. The spa/pool area is incredibly relaxing. After a long day sight seeing we loved next to the fire in the Chateau's bar. Very cozy! Highly recommend staying here but only if your budget is not limited...valet parking is $31 per day.

We booked four nights here over the Thanksgiving weekend. We were given a new room after one day because they were pumping grease traps below our window, the noise was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves think. The second room was a smoking room, which we were told was not. It had a connecting door to a suite which was being used as a corporate hospitality room. Smoke smell and noise until 2am. Jackhammers and construction at 7am.

Advise to check room before accepting. They will put unsuspecting guests is terrible rooms first. Insist on upgrades, they will comply most times.

This hotel is amazing. The brochure describes it as "decaying grandeur" and I couldn't put it better myself. For a start, the hotel is in the exact middle of Quebec City, set against an idealic square, surroundered by restaurants and filled with street performers. The concierge are the most obliging people I have ever met, and each night gave us a perfect reservation in a perfect restaurant to eat at. The rooms are superb and are decorated to the highest standard, our room even had it's own turret. The pool and gym are well equiped and the deli, affordable and delicious. Although the hotel was an absolute joy to stay at, some things were slightly annoying. The restaurant in the hotel was over priced and lacked any kind of atmosphere. The veranda Cafe, although very pleasant didn't allow children under the age of 16 to sit inside. However, I would definately stay here again, the surrounding views are superb. An absolute gem of Quebec, of Canada, of the world.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Ask the concierge for dinner reservations, the surrounding area and restaurants are otherwise usually fully booked
