I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I remember at the time when I was searching for a hotel wanting something trendy, sophisticated like the St. Germain, but they were booked up at the time. Finally the good reviews lured me to this hotel, although it looked like I was not going to get the sophistication of the St. Germain. However, I was not let down at all. The design, the style of the decoration is not the same trendy, Zen-like decor that I tend to lean towards (like Hotel Nelligan in Montreal) however, it is perfectly lovely in its right, a more grand style, lots of brocades, silky fabrics, elaborate window treatments.
Arrival: seamless - there is a place to drive your car right up to the door and the valet takes care of everything, and parks your car. Reception was very smooth. There is a tourist information centre with everything you could need to know about your stay in Quebec City. The lobby is decorated in a grand style, very nice.
Room: we had a lovely family suite on one of the top floors, which we got a very good rate for, including breakfast. The room was lovely, clean, beautifully decorated, the furnishings were in good shape, not 'tired' like some hotels that have more traditional decors. The suite had two rooms, one with two queen size beds and a television; two french doors opened onto a little salon with a sofa, chair, desk, another tv. Everything was very comfortable and we had a nice view. I did not book a pool/atrium facing room because I had read somewhere that there is a strong chlorine smell but I did not find this to be the case. If I return I might book a pool facing room in order to relax on the balcony with my coffee in the morning.
Pool: there is an atrium with a pool which is absolutely lovely. We used the pool in the morning, it was very relaxing.
Restaurant: Initially I had wanted to go to Laurie Raphael which is one of Quebec's premiere restaurants, but decided not to go because I didn't feel it was terribly appropriate for our 7 year old boy. So we ate at the hotel restaurant. We were very happy with this restaurant. Lovely decor, again, in a more traditional style, nice banquettes, a nice atmosphere for a family meal or a romantic dinner. The food was fantastic, the service terrific. They had a child's menu and placemat which assured us that they were welcoming to children.
Location: we felt that we were well located, not far from the good shopping and strolling.
All in all, this was a lovely experience and I would not hesitate to recommend it or to go back myself.
