“Nice campgrounds, but got shafted on the site”

The park itself is very nice, with a great beach and nice trails. The average rating is because of the site we got.

We were excited because we had secured a reservation for one of the so-called "coveted" beach sites. Unfortunately, there is no privacy at site #159. It is wide open with little shade and no separation from #157 next to it. Sitting next to the firepit at our site, we could basically join in on the conversation with the group next to us eating at their table. This would be a perfect site if 2 groups had both sites but if you're seeking some seclusion, I would not recomment this one. Instead try 160 or 161. The good thing about this location of course is that you can walk to the beach and to the lakeside trails.

Site 159 should not be an individual site and should be joined with 157.

Fyi- The bear issue is for real. Some bear cubs got into the car of the group next to us, and there were bears strolling through the other campsites at night. It was a bit jarring to wake up to people banging on pots all night.

We are from Oregon and, despite the great campgrounds in our state, have been coming to D.L. Bliss for five years. The campsites are, with few exceptions, beautiful. The upper campgrounds are roomier and nicer than the beach sites, and you are much less likely to be near a noisy group, who are few and far between to begin with. The bear lockers are a great place to store food and are convenient. The sites with old (wooden) bear lockers are great, as you can use these to store non-food items. Each site has a nice fire pit and fires are always allowed. In case you are unfamiliar with the weather during the summer at Tahoe, it is unbeatable, with sunny days and cool nights almost without exception. The beach at the campground, which is a short drive from most sites, is one of the nicest on the lake, with a roped off, gradually sloped and safe swimming area. There are a number of great hiking trails that originate in the campground, as well as ranger activities for the kids. There are always many kids at the campground, and often families from other countries. While not far (10 miles or so) from restaraunts and other activities, the campground has a true feeling of wilderness (your campsite will be visited by a bear one or more nights, even if you sleep through it), though has showers and fush toilets. Assuming you like camping to begin with, D.L. Bliss will not dissappoint.

We arrived at D.L. Bliss last weekend hoping to experience this incredible site. What greeted us was a most difficult person ruling the toll booth of entry. Although she (Sarah) must be very tired of turning people away who are hoping to use this wonderful beach and campground, her attitude was beyond belief! Half of our family (including our children) had entered the park by boat, the other half by car. She promptly informed us at the toll booth (over a mile from the beach), that the day parking was full. Of course we were perplexed as our family on the boat were looking at the parking lot with many free spaces. (we called them by cell) Yes she knew that, but those were to stay open in case of campers that may arrive later in the day. Well, could we at least drop off our mother who is 78 and our unable to walk the mile to the beach, and our stuff? No she said that would not be possible. Could I leave my purse as a deposit, as insurnace that I would be right back? No she said, that would not be possible. The short of it is, that we spent over half an hour at the booth until we came up with the idea of purchasing a 30 dollar camp site just to drive down to the beach! This spectacular setting is really unavailable for day use, unless you are lucky enough to snag the handful of parking spaces that are alloted. It is really a shame and perplexing that that there is not a better system set up to allow people to enjoy one of the finest sites in Tahoe. It is even more troubling to think that the park hires such a rude person to deliver this depressing news. If you can figure out a way to use this park, it is just lovely!

This is a beautiful campground on Lake Tahoe. We enjoyed the beach and the sites were large and private. We camped in late August and it seemed that several large families booked campsites near one another. They often yelled from site to site, which shattered the otherwise peaceful calm of the setting. I wished the park ranger or camp host would have asked one large group to be quiet way before the 10:00 quiet hour began...adults with alcohol and seemingly unsupervised teens and children...not a fun mix for the rest of the campers. Without the noise, this would have been one of our favorite sites in the state.

“Stay away unless you want Bears to eat your food!”

Do not go here until they fully replace the bear boxes with an updated design. Bears have been breaking into the boxes and stealing everyone's food. I know because they did it to me. Also, they have broken into cars where people left food.

At a minimum, take some strong wire with you and wire the box shut as a backup. Other than this, the sites are roomy and close to the Lake.
