There are very few places left in the world where in the middle of tourist season you can walk in off the street and rent a room for under fifty dollars and enjoy 180 degree ocean views from your window. The 30 room Bahai Blanca is one of these few. It was build in 1986 by its current Canadian (French) owners who reside close by and manage its day to day operation. They are in the process of adding an 8 room, higher end B&B on some land they own a 100 meters away, also with spectacular views.
When I first chanced upon this place ten years ago and enjoyed a coffee at its small restaurant it felt like something out of a Hemingway novel. It was not until this year I was able to return and actually stay at the place, and it did not disappoint. Perhaps the most salient moment came as we were sitting on the deck in the early evening and over the water came some solo sax blues. We went for a stroll along the adjacent beach and in the shadows found the musician, not a set of speakers or bar with a live band. He was also a guest and, as it turns out somewhat renown player.
The Bahai Blanca could do with a coat of paint, perhaps some new furniture and maybe an increase in publicity.... but if it got all of that, I am not sure it would stay the same .... and it is one of those places that should remain unchanged
All rooms open to the ocean. Three also have windows that are ocean side.
