I arrived Saturday morning with the hope to get a room so as to be able to get ready for the wedding I was attending in Sevenoaks, however, the room that had been allocated to me was not ready and as such another room had to be offered, they did well to accommodate me promptly with no fuss.
The reception was tended by a friendly Spanish member of staff with whom I exchanged a few pleasantries in my poor Spanish.
The double room was clean, has a decent sized television (although half the channels didn’t work!) and was bright and spacious enough for the two of us staying there. The cupboard was a little awkward to use as whilst it was deep, the door to it was tiny. The door to the bathroom slams shut, as does the door to the main room – if you are not a conscientious resident this could be disruptive to guests, however it's good for security purposes.
Our room had a joining door to the next room – fortunately, our friends were staying in the room, however, one could overhear conversations – although the walls were pretty thin I didn't experience any disturbance that night.
The rooms do come equipped with tea making facilities, and an iron and ironing board. The bed was comfortable, I certainly fell asleep easily enough which is a fairly good sign!
The bathroom is in dire need of a revamp, the light was dull, and flickering, and in the morning (Sunday) the “hot” water was tepid at best – one of our friends had rung to enquire into it, but received no explanation or reason as to why there was no hot water.
When we returned in the evening, the bar was not accepting cash payments, and owing to the fact that the security deposit they had put on my card only covered the room rate we weren’t able to pay for drinks on our room and as such had to authorise it with a credit card, not a big deal but a little frustrating.
Breakfast finished very early, 10am on the dot! i.e. they were clearing the food from the buffet at 10am. Bearing in mind this was a Sunday morning (I'd have expected an 11am finish), I couldn't help being felt rushed. One of our friends arrived 5 minutes after 10 and all the food had been cleared and the waiter did advise that the chef was on his way home. To their credit they did bring some poached eggs on toast for them which was kind.
The hotel does offer free wifi which worked pretty well from our room, I’m not sure what the coverage is like throughout the rest of the hotel though – I didn’t use it extensively, but from the little I used of it, it seemed fine.
I didn't get to try out the pool or the gym as I didn't have time, but it's nice to have had that option available.
There was ample amounts of free parking around the hotel.
There are also quite extensive conference rooms/suites available, whilst I didn’t have a need to use them, I did have a look in some of the rooms and they seems well equipped and relatively private.
On checkout they could have done with 2 members of staff .
For some reason we were charged TWICE for the room. When I enquired into it they advised me that it was "impossible" for a room to be charged out twice - yet I had managed it! After proving that we were indeed charged twice, I did receive a lengthy email of apology which was appreciated, my card was also refunded. It transpired that the receptionist was on a break and so did not notice the processing of our room and so put it onto the card used for the security deposit. I wonder if any other guests that day had the same issue?
Overall the hotel is pleasant, in a nice quiet location within a few minutes of Sevenoaks and easy access to the motorway. I didn’t experience any of the local pubs, but certainly the ambience of the area seemed pleasant. A nice hotel, but for the price I’d have expected less of the niggles I came across, and certainly a bit of a revamp in some parts.
