Some places are well concealed, hidden in the nooks and crannies at the end of nowhere, that their seclusion is a price we gladly pay for. They are at the end of nowhere but when you arrive it is worth every minute of your winding road voyage and every liter of gad you spend. Vivere Azure is one of these places. The resort is absolutely spectacular, but what makes it so, is not just its perfectly architecture beauty that coalesces with nature, it is also the remarkable service of the staff which makes you feel as if you’re staying at the Shangri-La or Peninsula. It's a perfect place for romance or just to getaway.
Azure is located in Mabini/Anilao Batangas. About a 2.5-3 hour drive from Manila. Along the way there are numerous resorts but if you have the money to spend, stay here. No other place in Batangas rivals it. It’s the perfect getaway if you don’t want to fly and if you want to feel like you’re in your own private romantic getaway. The resort is built on a hill that moves down towards the beach, as is with all the resorts in the area, so do expect a good workout by climbing all the steps.
The service in Azure is in a word, remarkable. It competes with the Shangri-La, or any other 5 star Small Hotels of the World, or any world class resort for that matter. From the moment you arrive, someone is at the door waiting to greet you and they somehow know your name without you even telling them. The staff ushers you to the front desk which is located right beside an infinity pool perched atop a cliff that overlooks the most splendid sea. You are given welcome drinks and then shown around the resort. We were surprisingly upgraded (since no one in the Philippines upgrades for free) to the Escapade room. For dinner, they asked us if we wanted a beach dinner, and we of course said yes. Come dinner time we found the beach all to ourselves with a table on top a large rug surrounded by big throw pillows perfectly lit with candle lanterns so that you can see each other and your food properly. The path leading to our private beachfront table was lit with about 50 candles and in addition, they placed a stereo/cd player playing the ideal type of music for the perfect type of ambiance. There’s always someone watching over your needs without you feeling like they’re imposing. Whenever we needed something, we never had to call them, they somehow intuitively knew what we wanted, and they magically appeared. This is what service is all about. I used to work for a 5 star hotel in San Francisco, CA and this is what we strive for. In fact, most hotels in the Philippines should learn from the staff here.
The food here is high-end. Think Filet Mignon, large prawns with a duet of salmon in a delicious sauce, fresh snapper, all using quality ingredients to provide a quality taste. Even the breakfast was amazing. We were the only ones in the resort and they still put out a semi buffet for us. However, the food is not spectacular; it’s good. As it should be because of the price you pay. It’s all inclusive of your rate except for alcoholic beverages and soda. Ice tea is drink all you can. We were however not too fond of their afternoon snacks that we opted to pay for such as their carbonara. Regardless, the food is still good and you should try the filet mignon!
The rooms are beautiful. Again they compete with leading resorts of the world and come fully equipped. Their air conditioning is already turned on before you enter the room, it is scented perfectly so as not to offend the senses, it comes with good quality toiletries and slippers, a DVD player, a large flat screen tv, a king size bed, and a wonderful shower. The moment we entered our room, it engaged all our senses as classical music was playing from the sound system making you think that an orchestra was privately playing for you as your eyes fixated on the beach right in front of your room. Perfectly designed and extremely comfortable.
The beach has its own private marine sanctuary and it’s blue with semi white sand. Don’t expect Boracay because you’ll be disappointed. But it’s beautiful. There are also billiards, Wii, a bar, two restaurants both overlooking the beach, and the most amazing infinity pool with the most splendid view of the ocean. And if you’re tired of wading in the pool looking at a mesmerizing sea, chill-out on their cabanas that are good for two but can fit four, grab a few drinks, snacks, a bottle of wine or whatever, and enjoy the most beautiful sunset in the world.
Obviously places like these do not come cheap. They are expensive. We paid P7,500 per person per night so that’s P 15 thousand per night. We paid about $500 because of our drinks and extra food we ordered since it’s all inclusive. So is it worth it? Indeed. If you want to feel pampered and special, if you want to get away from it all, if you want to feel like you’re part of the worlds top 1% then come here. I don’t know how often I’ll be here since it’s pricy but I’ll definitely be back. It is an experience you must indulge in even if its just once.
