We have stayed in the motel part of Tannum on the Beach many times over the years, and for the price, we think it's OK. Quite daggy and unrenovated, but clean and with great ocean views and close proximity to the Esplande and beach.
Recently we decided to try the new BlueWater apartments part of the motel which is (as we discovered) behind the original motel. I think, if we go back, we would choose the daggy motel, as we really didn't think the apartments were worth the extra nearly $100 per night for these reasons:
Most importantly for us, the views were not great. We were on a lower floor, probably thanks to booking through wotif, and looked straight into power lines, the other motel building and houses. You could see the ocean behind, so yes, technically it is ocean view, but really more of suburbia than anything.
The unit was modern and very clean, obviously recently built, but not at all large. The living area was small and the balcony was small too. I wouldn't class this luxury - really more your basic 2 br unit. Large tv with austar that said we had a full austar package - but very few channels - much less than would be available on the basic package at home.
No pool in the apartment complex, but they did let us use the motel pool.
I think all of this would have been OK if the price was a little more realistic. We paid $235 per night on wotif. I guess it is supply and demand - at Bargara, for example, we have stayed in much larger, more luxurious units with full ocean views for less than $200 per night.
