My six-day visit to Stapleton's Chantry was an incredibly lovely, memorable experience. I stayed in the spacious Blue Room, with its views to the front and back, its large desk, and its comfy bed. Folded on the bed was a sumptuous terrycloth bathrobe -- a most welcoming surprise. A colleague stayed in the charming Green Room. We shared the bathroom, with its modern shower, lush towels and luxurious bathtub. Family mementos, photographs, little handmade animals and hand-painted cups were just some of the things that brought a feeling of homey cosiness to the place.

Breakfast was to die for! We had fresh fruits and smoothies, yoghurt and juices, cereals and breads, porridge and fresh organic eggs, choices of meat, fish and vegetarian sausage, and much more, including delicious coffee.

Our hostess and host were very kind, accommodating and cheerful. They treated all their guests with thoughtful consideration and a sense of humour.

Stapleton's Chantry is in a lovely area near Wallingford, southeast of Oxford. Early spring flowers were in bloom, songbirds thrilled to the occasional sunshine, and a pair of mallards swam, fed, and played together on the pond. The nearby Red Lion pub offered a range of food and drink, including luscious homemade soups, several vegetarian entrees, and locally brewed beer.

I would return in a heartbeat.

My husband and I spent four days at Stapleton's Chantry, in "The Barn", a charming thatched cottage - lots of room, small kitchenette, great shower with fluffy white towels and robes, seating area with table & chairs, and a comfortable bed. The available Wifi was great for keeping in contact with the family, and every amenity you could think of was available.
Maggie and Muir, our hosts, were very welcoming and more than accommodating. We had spent a hectic 10 days in Paris before arriving in England, and were looking for a few days of late rising and lazy days. After a great breakfast one morning, Maggie accommodated us by stocking the cottage with bread/butter, milk, juice, cereal, etc. so we could breakfast at leisure for the next few days. Maggie kindly made reservations for us at the local pub "The Bear". Great food and friendly atmosphere - definitely recommend.

The beautiful gardens at Stapleton's Chantry just call for a relaxing glass of wine amidst the roses. This has to be one of the best B&B's we have stayed in, and we have stayed in many over the past few years. Maggie and Muir make you feel at home, and can't do enough for their guests. A great place for families and business people, and it certainly lends itself to extended stays. Highly recommended.

3 Sep 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We had a two night stay at Stapletons Chantry - we are 2 couples in our 30's - for my friends Birthday. We stayed in the 2 unique self contained cottages (one is a converted barn) next to one another within the grounds of the main house. There are rooms in the main house too. Both Cottage & Barn have been beautifully refurbished & hosts a double bed, ensuite bathroom & small kitchen. The cottage has a hob and the barn has a table & chairs. We prepared spagetti bolognaise in the Cottage and dined in the Barn with our friends for our first evening. It was bliss! Home from home & without the worry of disturbing our B&B hosts. My only slight gripe was there was a few cobwebs in both kitchens but I can live with that!

Breakfast is in the main house & was both delicious & enormous - anything you requested was provided, with notice of course.

Our second evening was excellent too, we dined in the local 'Sweet Olive' restaurant recommended by our hosts. The food was gastronomic.
We enjoyed some wonderful walks along the Thames during our stay and visited nearby Little Wittenham which was stunning.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place. Its rare these days I try somewhere which wasn't tried & tested on TA, but I just came across it on the internet & I am so glad I did! It is a little pricey at £100 a night but well worth it I think, their website really does not do it justice.
