And they are called Beth and Rob Reid at the luxury B&B 'Reid's Place'. Although Reid's Place is well known as a romantic wedding place, their property is also a phantastic and luxurious Bed & Breakfast on the Redcliffe Peninsula, just north of Brisbane. We discovered it a few years ago when we passed by and saw Rob constructing one of their two rooms in the Camellia Cottage, using exquisite sorts of Australian wood. We hopped in and he gave us a tour of the Cottage and their house with the premises that are used for wedding ceremonies. Beautiful gardens, gorgeous flowers and trees, manicured lawns. He is a perfectionist. Just like his wife Beth, the most friendly and helpful host you can imagine. They run the property alone and their service is just perfect. I cannot describe the variety of breakfasts they serve with eggs, fruit, muesli, toast, marmelade: anything your heart could desire. When we come out of our room in the morning, the breakfast table on our private covered verandah is already set, in the most splendid way. The plates decorated with a small flower from their lush garden.
The two rooms are totally independent, each with its own entrance and its own verandah. Inside you find an extremely comfortable king bed, air conditioning, tv, large ceiling fan, sitting area, little kitchen, microwave oven and last but not least a luxury bathroom with double jacuzzi.
Beth and Rob did everything to fulfill our wishes: gave us a ride when we did not have a car yet, let me use their computer (free and for as long as I wanted) etc.
Scarborough's nice and quiet beach is just a 5 minutes walk away. (Don't forget to have an Italian coffee at Rabottini's, the best we have had outside of Italy.)
When we had spent a day shopping in Brisbane or making a ride, we were always glad to return "home". And then there was often a small surprise in the room, some chocolate, fruitcake, fresh fruit.
At this moment I'm trying to rearrange our Australia trip in such a way that we can return here for some extra days. The Redcliffe Peninsula has enough to offer as far as shopping, library with lots of computers for your internet access, beaches, and of course,on the harbour, the famous fish shop and restaurant Morgans!! Just a few minutes walk from Reid's Place. Their takeaway lunches with fresh grilled or fried fish are a must.
But the best of the Redcliffe Peninsula is Reid's Place, a SUPER B&B, with two real gems.
