Before reviewing this pub/hotel I must add to a previous reviewers comments on the use of your Sat Nav, driving across the Yorks Moors in the dark avoiding the sheep is no fun and just when you think you are nearly there you are directed to drive along what looks like a footpath and end up having to reverse and find out for yourself where the pub is, more luck than judgement in my case.
On arrival I was warmly greeted but was so tired I passed on dinner, the room was clean and presentable however I found the lack of soap annoying as it meant I had to unpack my bag in order to find soap to wash my hands. In fairness I commented on this when I booked out and the owner was surprised and informed me that the usual soap/shower gel etc is always provided. As I was about to drive off the owner told me that the basket of soaps were in my room all the time but sadly had been placed behind the curtain on the window sill, as I had arrived late the first thing I had done when entering the room was to close the curtains so I hadnt seen the basket.
My main disappointment was that breakfast isnt served until 8.30 am and as I had to leave at 8.15 it meant that I missed out on a proper breakfast, I was offered some toast to which I agreed but knowing I had a long day in front of me I would have preferred a more substantial breakfast.
In summary I would say this is the ideal country pub for those wanting long walks on the moors or a leisurely stay but is not good for those away on business that need to leave early.
