As a group of friends(who work in the lodge industry) , some of whom hadnt been to moz yet- we were looking for a relatively inexpensive, yet beautiful resort to spend 9 days at. We couldnt have asked for anything more suitable than Mango Beach.
It is a very Rustic experience, with basic Coconut leaf thatch rooms. As has been mentioned before, there are limited times for electricity- out of season is 17:00- 22:00 and in season it is on for a few hours in the morning. There is also a small-ish Donkey Boiler which gets lit in the morning and evening to heat water up for showering. The main area itself (Bar & Restaurant) is located on the top of a sand dune overlooking the ocean- which is incredibly beautiful.
The Restaurant serves lovely food- well presented (Thanks to Roy, who is a top class chef, and has even been Nelson Mandela's chef for 6 months)- but the Restaurant chooses the menu on what is available on a day to day basis. If you are looking for more variety there are a number of places on the way and into Tofu- which will give you just that (Dino's Pizza's are a definite must.).
If you are looking for a European Standard Hotel in Mozambique- Mango Beach is not that! However, if you want to experience Mozambique in its true form, which is basic living, non of the mod cons- but true hospitality with lovely people (notably Paul- owner who goes out of his way to help you), in a scenic environment- then this is your spot. We managed to truly relax here- and get away from the fast paced modern world.
