This is about the 14th time we have stayed at YVR and this particular trip we took advantage of Fairmont's terrific President's Club 2 nights for the price of 1 incentive. Nothing is more convenient than rolling through the terminal minutes away from a hotel check in desk. On check in and check out at the President's Club desk, I noted that the Front Desk Manager was situated at this desk, situated slightly away from the main front desk as not to impose. Service as always was a fine blend of friendly and efficient. We reviewed our designated preferences of the room (pillow type, proximity to lifts, careful review of the 2 for 1 program) and room 915 fit the bill. 915 overlooked the US departure gates and beyond the gates was the active arrival runway set against the breathtaking Rocky Mountain backdrop. The rooms feature a bedside central control so all the lighting could be adjusted for maximum comfort. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and the bathrobes were more than adequate. Floor to ceiling windows were clean. Amenities are of a good quality and the soaker tub is huge. Fairmont also doesn't spare expense on the great bath sheets.
On this occassion, I will note our Guest Services Attendant was extraordinary; what I couldn't believe is that when I caught up to her in the hall and asked if she was responsible for refreshing 915 and she replied, 'Yes Mr. Clarke. Is there something that is unsatisfactory?". She knew who I was without referencing her cart. Sadly, this type of attention to detail is something I don't find very common while staying on North American properties, but this is second time I experienced it at Fairmont YVR.
The gym was well maintained with great equipment which offers an opportunity to overlook the bustling US check in counters (actually, it's somewhat of a surreal experience to be in swimwear above people milling around for their departures.)
One tip; I would take care using washroom facilities at 0530 in the morning; it seemed everyone was using water simultaneously (presumably passengers preparing for headstart flights or it might have been a unique maintenance servicing moment), which I surmise resulted in our toilet slightly overflowing.
Consistently friendly and welcoming employees and great rooms always render this a great and reliable stay.
