My family and I stayed at Mt. Engadine Lodge in June for 2 nights.
We drove on a well-maintained gravel road south of Canmore for about 25 miles. We actually arrived to the Lodge after they had
just received 18 inches of snow!! June 18!!! The road had already been plowed! (Most of it melted by the end of our stay). The Lodge was incredible; the staff delightful; and the scenery breath-taking!!
Our suite was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully furnished. There was a gas log fireplace. Our daughter adored the window seat and read her books there. The front of the Lodge had a balcony/deck the entire length of the Lodge and some. It over-looked a pretty meadow below. There was a small stream meandering through the meadow. The mountains surrounded the Lodge and meadow. They were so close!! Moose entered the meadow each night. One night there were three! The meals were out of this world! Moroccan Lamb! Apple Cake! There was even a two course breakfast!! The staff were outstanding! So helpful and very knowledgeable about the area.
We will absolutely be back! If I could give Mt. Engadine Lodge a
"10" I would!!

I spent an amazing weekend on March23-25, 2007. The hosts/inkeepers Shari-Lynn & Chris Williams were top notch. The rest of their staff need to be commended as well. The hospitality, food, atmosphere, and accomodations were spectac. The snow was plentiful and lots of snow shoeing was had. The lodge had a very nice comfy at home feeling. Afternoon tea is a nice way to unwind after a hard slog on the trails. The food is plentiful and very very tasty. The staff was always approachable and readily available when you needed them. The rooms are cozy & quaint. I totally recommend the Mount Engadine Lodge for a relaxing week-end. Take the time and see what mother nature has to offer in that part of the Rockies in beautiful Alberta, Canada.

“Seriously Spectacular”

If you like to spend time in the outdoors and follow it up with a little pampering and some seriously spectacular food, then add Mount Engadine Lodge to your list of must-stay places. My teenage daughter and I spent a winter weekend here in February and it was everything we needed to return home refreshed and relaxed.

Our days started at 8 am with a buffet breakfast of fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, cereal, and oatmeal, followed by a main course -- eggs, sausages, and pancakes the weekend we were there. After breakfast we packed our own brown bag lunch from fresh ingredients including homemade bread, cookies and trail mix.

Outdoors there was a vast meadow to explore on snowshoes and three groomed cross-country trails through the forest. The best part is we didn’t have to drive anywhere to enjoy a day’s skiing. Inside, we found the bright, spacious, comfortably furnished common rooms perfect for reading, games, and sharing stories with other guests.

In the late afternoon, we enjoyed tea and snacks beside a crackling fire before a leisurely soak in the hot tub and supper at 7. Supper –such an ordinary word for such incredible food. The cook even made spinach taste fabulous. Friday -- beef tenderloin, ratatouille, rosti potatoes, beans, salad and berry cream pie. Saturday – chicken Dijon, spinach, pasta, salad and – my personal favourite – Amazon chocolate cake – absolutely to die for.

The managers and cook are welcoming and helpful. They were always ready to guide us to the right trail or cheerfully answer endless questions about the area. The lodge has several suites with private bathrooms. We stayed in a double room and shared a bathroom. While the managers say renovations are planned for the fall that will see ensuites in every room, sharing a large, spotlessly clean bathroom was not a problem.

Can’t stand the outdoors? Don’t want to be pampered? Go for the food –it’s worth it.

“A Small Slice of Heaven”

Mt. Engadine Lodge is a little slice of heaven for outdoor enthusiasts who want their rustic tinged with just the right amount of luxury. It sits on a forested ledge above a green meadow traversed by the meandering loops of Smuts Creek, which creates a wildlife paradise, including a mud wallow that attracted as many as a dozen moose each dawn and evening of our stay. The view across the meadow - - Mts. Commonwealth, Pigstail and Birdwood towering against the sky above forested slopes - - is classic Canadian Rockies, and utterly intoxicating.
The spacious rooms are comfortably, if simply, furnished, with excellent beds and bedding. We stayed in Whiskey Jack, and later in Elk, both of which have wide balconies and Adirondack-style chairs that draw guests to that marvelous mountain view. Bathrooms are basic, perfectly adequate.
The public rooms in the lodge are homey, comfortable and full of nice touches: shelves of books, a piano and guitar, binoculars, board games, toys for children and adults. Coffee and tea, beer, wine and drinks, are always available.
All guests dine together: breakfast at 8:00 a.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m. The food is first rate home cooking. There are no menus - - you eat what's served - - but staff is happy to take advance information about dining preferences and dietary needs.
The folks who stay here tend to be the adventuresome sort, so there is plenty of interesting conversation around the tables, including much talk of the day's hiking, climbing and other activities. Immediately after breakfast, staff lay out a lunch buffet so guests can pack food for their hikes and other travel.
The best part is the staff, which after 5 minutes feel more like family than hired help. The welcome is warm, the service friendly and caring.
A special place - - the sort of spot you come home to.

My wife and I first came across Mt.Engadine on a visit to Kananaskis the previous year and were immediately stuck by the beauty of the location. We said right there and then we must try it out next time.

When we returned in Sept 2005 we were not to be disappointed; the place is ideal! Great accomodation (we booked the Moose Suite overlooking the wallow hole), great food and very friendly and helpful staff.

I would recommend Mt.Engadine to anyone looking to get away from a hectic world and just relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery the area has to offer. We spent our days backpacking on the many trails and hikes in the area.

We will be going back!!!
