DON'T GO THERE. ONLY FOR 10-20 $ more you can choose really nice motel or hotel. We slept 2 nights in Canmore, first night in Quality Chateau Resort for 120$ and the second night in Mountain View Inn. The quality of service is totally different. In Mountain View Inn our sheets were not changed from the previous guest and the receptionist told us he has no extra! Can you believe that. The room was really dirty, no microwave, no fridge, no even coffee maker. nothing. People think twice before go there. That's my honest opinion. I'll never go back there. Oh, and one more thing, my husband sleep with 2 pillows, but of course they had no extra.

Unfortunately, I was sceptical of all the negative reviews I had read about this hotel. But I'm sure they were all true. This was the worst hotel I have been in, and this is fairly comparing it to some pretty seedy hostels I have stayed in.
The bathroom smelled like vomit. In fact, it had dried vomit on the floor, beside the toilet. The woman at the front desk did come and try to clean it up, but after a good, centralized mopping, it still smelled like vomit. After looking around a little more, I realized there was also dried food and lots of hair on the bathroom floor and in the tub.
The walls through the entire room were dirty. It looked as though various liquids had been spilled/sprayed on them, every where. I started to feel a bit queasy when I realized just how dirty the room was. My boyfriend refused to take his shoes off.
THe bed side lamps were both broken, one had exposed wires hanging out of it. There was a smashed clock radio behind the dresser. There was no soap in the bathroom. The carpet was covered in dry food and dirt. The walls and doors are very thin... It was not a pleasent experiance.
The dry red liquid I found on the door frame in the bahroom almost made me ill when I saw it. It is what sent us packing back to the front desk to demand a refund. Again, the woman at the desk was very appologetic, and paid us back in full. I think we were there for about an hour in total.
I have pictures of just about everything I wrote about. If I can upload them at a later date, I will.

Called the Mountainview Inn mid June to book a room for friends of mine who were traveling through Canmore on August 5. I gave a Visa number and was told that the rooms were booked at $99+GST (each), which I considered reasonable . At that time I could have booked a few other Canmore hotel for about that much. No email confirmation ws set, which I found a bit odd, but did not think much of it.
On July 25, a week before my friends arrived in Calgary, Tina (the owner) called and notified me that the rate has gone up to $139, a mere 40% increase from the rate at which I booked it. She said that her receptionist "made a mistake" when I booked. I said I did not care much and since it is her mistake, she should honor the quoted rate, otherwise she is in breach of the (verbal) agreement we had on July 25. Tina said that if I want I can sue her, and if I want the rooms, I'd better caugh up the difference.
After a few phone calls to other Canmore hotels I realized where she was coming from: at the time she called me Canmore was booked solid; not a single room to be had. She knew we ould have no other alternative. I am just wondering how many of her other lodgers she called, extorting an extra 40% while holding them by the balls. Not a bad startegy: sell a room at a low cost to lure people, wait to see if the town fills up and then go and collect more claiming a "mistake" was made.
So here you go Tina, you got your extra $40 per room. I do hope, however, that this review will serve as a red flag for future poor souls. At the very least, if you book there, make sure she emails you something (even then though she can pull her "mistake" trick). Just in case there are readers who experienced the same thing, I would not mind filing a little Statement of Claim in small claims court in Calgary on behalf of us all.

We stayed at Mountain View Inn for 1 night in late June, 2006. The rooms were clean and comfortable, albeit nothing fancy. Just beware of the mosquitoes because we literally had to run from our car to the room at night to avoid being attacked. I've never seen so many of these little buggers anywhere in my travels. In addtion, our bathroom was filled with insects that managed to come through the screen at night.
