I stayed at this property during May of 2006. This hotel is an outstanding alternative to staying in pricey Banff if you are travelling with a family. It is situated in the most beautiful setting and nestled below towering peaks above. The view from the balcony is unbelievable. Breakfast was included when I visited but was only average in quality. The room was clean and very spacious and had a refrigerator which was great for storing food and beverages. While I was there, I noticed the hotel is very popular with large groups of foreign travelers, many of which were very happy to have me pose for pictures with them, which gave me a good laugh. There is no restaurant, so be prepared to drive to the city every evening for dinner, which is fun anyhow as there are a number of great restaurants. I highly encourage you to use the hot tub outside in the middle of winter.... chilly but the view is all worth it! Definately recommended for ski trip to Banff!

“Good but not 5 star”

The Lodges at Canmore

After staying at the same operator's property in Osoyoos BC, expectations were high - as the Spirit Ridge in Osoyoos is absolutely superb.

However, the Lodges at Canmore is a couple of notches below. Compared to a hotel room, it is of course much better - 2 separate bedrooms with a quite adequate kitchen, plus washer and dryer.

However, the beds are small and hard - really low end el cheapo - bedrooms not big enough to put in a TV. The beds made our stay a lot less pleasant - hard to share a small double bed with 2 adults. The beds were also very hard - made sleeping difficult.

The outdoor pool and hot tub were excellent. Firelplaces were nice. Heated indoor parking a plus. Management were very pleasant.

Funny they would cheap out on the beds - absolutely unlike their Osoyoos resort where the beds were fabulous.

I would actually rate this 3.5 stars. People seem to give out 5 star reports to fairly routine places - if this place is 5 stars, what about actual top end places - what would you rate them?

“The kids LOVED the pool!”

We stayed 4 nights in the Lodges in early June. There were NO mosquitos or flys at all during the time we were there (which was suprising to us). We stayed in Phase One and our balcony overlooked the swimming pool (this room was recommended since we were traveling with kids, ages 12 and 13). Staff were right, it was perfect for us as the kids spent much of their spare time in the pool (the water temp was perfect). It would have been nice to have patio chairs on the balcony as we spent time on the balcony watching the kids swim below. Parking was convenient. The condo did not have a fan but when I requested one, staff were prompt in getting us one.

“Could not be a better place to stay int he midst of the Rockies”

The Lodges at Canmore

We spent our first week in Canada in Vancouver in a rented house, and adored the city, then moved onto Canmore in the Rockies for the middle of our stay in this GREAT country. The Lodges at Canmore gave us a loft apartment with two double beds a lounge/diner and fully equipped American kitchen, two bathrooms and a shared pool. The accommodation was superb, very comfortable, very quiet, everything you needed, and more! We cannot recommend these Lodges highly enough.
We hired a car for our week there, and travelled around to Banff, an easy journey on the Trans Canada Highway, to a ranch to ride horses (The Boundary Ranch) to a Spa, to Calgary, a great shopping city and much more, to Lake Louise (Stunning beyond words) and Lake Minnewanka, where the waters were crystal turquoise, and much more. Canmore itself was utterly charming, less touristy than Banff with some great places to eat, and so friendly - and the cost of eating out was low but quality and service was high.

We visited an exhibition of the most glorious QUILTS we have ever seen in Canmore all made by the Senior citizens who have their own very smart meeting hall and are highly regarded in Canada (Unlike here)! There is a brilliant supermarket, low cost but tasty fruit and bread - the food in Canada - we could have come back twice the size and had to be very very careful, but it is all fresh and the salads are to die for!!!

Totally recommended. The Osbornes, Lincoln

“Loved the 2nd phase at the Lodges”

The Lodges at Canmore

29 Aug 2006
5/5 found this review helpful

We had a wonderful stay in Suite # 217 of the 2nd phase of the Lodges. This suite was brand new and there was only a few things left out. I am sure that in the coming months, everything will be terrific. This condo had a king in the master and queen in the second bedroom and a pullout in the living room. The only thing missing here was a coffee maker but hey it just made it easier to go for a walk and get a coffee uptown. Beautiful views and everthing was great.

The Lodges in itself is quite nice. There is a pool at the 1st phase and jacuzzi at the 1st and 2nd phase. The patio with its barbq is in the 1st phase and please watch out as you need your key to get in and out of the patio. This was one of the downfalls as kids are constantly getting locked out.

Thank you for such a great stay and we will be in contact for next year.
