It has been a couple of years since our last ski trip to Kicking Horse. One of the highlights of previous trips Cedar House, and this year was no different.
The new owners (May 2011) have retained all the elements that made the Cedar House a culinary delight, and apparently the new chef has just as much talent as the old one did.
Everything from the aesthetically pleasing presentation of the food (elegant, but not over the top); to the variety of flavours (polenta cake?! It was like mashed potatoes but made using polenta and so crammed with flavour I almost forgot the pork tenderloin it was being served with); to cooking the beef tenderloin exactly the way it was asked for (medium rare was in fact medium rare, and medium was medium), we enjoyed every morsel of our meal.
The duck risotto and polenta cake were unexpected highlights of a spectacular meal. The only disappointment is that with just two of us dining, we couldn't try more entrees.
It is worth noting that the menu is relatively pricey; however, the special we had was a great deal. Not the place to go if you're trying to scrape together enough money for a lift ticket by panhandling....the Cedar House is a special treat for your tastebuds that is definitely worth the money.
