“What a wonderful breath of fresh air! A true outdoor adventure vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2009

My friends and I spent a week at the Blueberry Lake resort during the second week of June. While the travel from New York City was quite a drive, the gold we found at the end of the rainbow was grand indeed. Blueberry Lake is a resort deep in the woods in the small town Labelle which is about 15 minutes away from the popular ski resort Mont Tremblant. From the main road it actually takes another 5 mile drive inland until you reach the property itself. What drew me to BLR is that unlike a common resort where guests are all housed in one central building- BLR offers individual chalet's that are fully equipped with 5 star amenities. This is something we valued as the privacy and seclusion was ideal for an outdoor adventure! When we finally arrived at BLR we stopped by the reception lodge for check in. We were greeted by Lucy/Helene who gave us some information about the resort and surrounding areas then she showed us how to get to our chalet. The main lodge which is also where they house their restaurant/pool/spa/sauna/steam room/gym and you can organize/coordinate your activities there such as mountain bike riding/kayaking/paddle boats/sports etc. Our chalet was #45; a few minute drive around the property and directly in front of the lake. BLR’s chalets come in 3 sizes – ours was the medium sized Papineau which was perfect for my group of 8. The chalet is a luxury log cabin which had everything we needed to make it a home away from home for a week in exquisite comfort. 4 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a huge outdoor deck, indoor Jacuzzi, outdoor Jacuzzi, pool table, bbq grill, wifi, plasma tv, cd player, dvd player, washing machine and dryer, fireplace all in a span of 3 floors.. they thought of everything! This kind of comfort level in a different setting would not be very out of the ordinary but when its right in the middle of nowhere and deep into the woods- it becomes an amazing experience. If I were to try to express this kind of comfort level the best analogy I can come up with is.. it’s like jumping into a pool filled with pillows. The chalets are spaced apart from each other so you get more than adequate privacy from your neighboring vacationers. When finished with the daily activities during the day time we would head out into the town- when at the main road (117) you can either head into Labelle (right) or Marchand (left).. we found the small quaint town of Marchand to be a lot more accessible and a quicker drive while Labelle had more bigger markets and commercial goods. While in town you can grab some lunch or dinner or buy groceries to bring back to the chalet to cook or Barbeque. In Labelle there was a very good brasserie/brewery where they had delicious food and great beer where as in Marchand we tried the little shacks and small restaurants where they sold poutine (fries with gravy and cheese curds) and quick eats. It has been a couple of weeks since our return and my friends are still talking about what a great time we had while at BLR. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed his time at BLR I find it hard to pick out any negatives however there were a couple of things that I should point out where improvements may benefit from. I’m not sure if this was just our chalet but the hot water had a very distinct sulfur smell(kind of like rotting eggs to a mild degree) to it- I suppose this is something to do with the water heater; thankfully this did not affect the Jacuzzi. Another suggestion I would have for BLR is that they should really have some sort of climbing wall. I think rock climbing day trips can be planned off premises but having that on site would be super. The gym was small, basically just a couple of treadmills and bicycle machines however with such great biking and hiking trails who cares. Some of the boats were in need of some upkeep, the paddle boats seemed especially worn. Anyways I would just be knit-picking if these were enough reasons for me to say otherwise than Blueberry Lake is a world class resort. BLR also has a great staff- very friendly and helpful, on multiple occasions they surpassed my expectations with their 5 star service. I can say that whether you are planning a romantic getaway to bringing the family and kids to groups of friends, BLR would be an awesome place to vacation. Thanks Blueberry Lake for an wonderful week!

Visit Mont Tremblant too! Lots of activities + Great restaurants although a bit expensive.

“Fantastic family summer holiday at Blueberry Lake”

We have just spent a fantastic action packed 2 weeks at Blueberry Lake.

The resort has everything you could wish for - tennis, swimming, spa, mountain bikes, walking trails and an excellent restaurant which catered for the whole family. All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and fluent in English (which was a big plus for us).

We spent a lot of time by the lake relaxing as the kids went kayaking and fishing or relaxing in the beautiful chalet where we were staying which had more than enough room for the 10 of us and managed to keep the adults and kids entertained. There was a pool table, large plasma with dvd, computer, high speed wireless broadband, large kitchen / living area, hot tub, barbeque and a large sunny balcony.

There was also an events organiser at the resort who set up onsite events whilst we were there and was very helpful in suggesting good local places and restaurants to visit such as Mont Tremblant (apparently great for skiing in the winter).

“Labelle, Quebec”

We spent two wonderful weeks at Blueberry Lake Resort end of June- beginning of July. The resort is situated about 4 km from the town of Labelle in the Mont Tremblant region of Quebec. It provides stunning views of Mont Tremblant, a small private lake as well as flora and fauna.
The service at the resort was friendly and prompt when required. The owner John was very kind and took us water skiing on beautiful Lake Alfonse. The restaurant at the resort serves a great brunch. The resort provides free access to row boats, canoes and a paddle boat. In addition, tennis rackets, bicycles, volleyball equipment were provided by the administration office. You can also try your hand at fishing with the rods and tackle provided. With a simple request, a large camp fire was arranged for our enjoyment on the shore of Blueberry Lake where we grilled sausages, marshmallows and listened to raccoons singing their evening songs in a nearby bush.
The log cottage we rented was spectacular in design, tastefully furnished, and equipped with two full bathrooms which enabled a very comfortable and relaxing experience. Added to this, the beauty of Mont Tremblant was constantly displayed through large windows. With adjacent cottages located reasonable distances apart, loss of privacy was not an issue. However, we did experience some noise during two weekend evenings from a neighboring cottage, due to parties.
“Canada Day” is not celebrated at Blueberry lake resort, which was a bit of a shame as we were looking forward to celebrate it.
Coming from Europe, we were a bit overwhelmed by the amount of biting “horse flies” around the cottage and lake area. It was explained that although the resort treats the area against biting insects, June and July are challenging months to be outdoors without protective clothing and insect repellent. However, once August arrives, negative insects cease to be a problem.
When visiting the town of Labelle, we enjoyed a wonderful kayaking trip on the beautiful Riviere Rouge. We found the people of Labelle to be generally friendly. For Example: Our tire was punctured by a large nail and we received friendly help from a local gas station employee who refused payment for his services. His kind assistance enabled us to safely continue on our journey without further delay. On the other hand, we had one incident where we were treated badly at the local depanneur 'de la valee de la rouge' (depanneur is what they call the convenience stores in Quebec) by the lady owner. Though we speak French, she treated us arrogantly (as outsiders) so we stayed clear of that place for the rest of our vacation. Overall our stay at Blueberry Lake was very pleasant and memorable.
P.S. In case you require bus transportation…don't believe what's on the Greyhound website…..The drivers will not stop at Labelle's bus stop,
despite the fact that a stop is scheduled as confirmed also by calling
a 1-800 number...better check with the local people to determine which bus stops at what time…..
