Very disappointing at best. We found the hotel website to be very misleading, especially the room picture. It is a very long drive from the Nanaimo Terminal but that was no major problem and we did know this. We had friends fly all the way out from Ontario for their 20th anniversary to celebrate with us and we wanted to make it special. We booked a two bedroom "delux" suite (as seen in the picture on the website with windows on both sides in the living room and a large deck with jet tub).....with the statement "every suite has a waterfront view)....what is misleading is that the water view is of the marina.......fine if you only want to look at boats and not the ocean. Or, the inlet.........in other words, don't assume that this Western most location on the coast of Vancouver Island is going to view the ocean......just the marina. Also the pictured room on the website belongs to the owner and was "unavailable"....the two bedroom suite was just ok, nice furniture but overall quite small, especially for four adults. Also, with both of us paying over 300.00 a night in (storm season rates)....only one bedroom is worth even close to that price. We let our friends have the master bedroom even though we each paid the same......the second bedroom has it's own bathroom but no hairdryer (like two hairdryers would be too costly?) and the bedroom was very small and they couldn't even splurge for a clock.......let alone an empty wall where a missing tv cabinet would obviously be placed since there is a cable jack........not a phone either.........both not necessary but both expected for this price and boasts of "superior luxury". Also, don't get hungry before 5:30 if you wish to stay in the resort....the ONE restaurant does not open until 5:30 except for a sparse and very ordinary continental breakfast is served. Also, for this inflated price....you will need to ask for an iron and board......nope....not included and if you hope to bring your laptop due the website also misleading by saying "data ports plus hot spots in lobby".....well,may be clear to some but we found also to lead one to think the room would have internet access as even motel 6's have in the room connections nowadays.......nope! Nice people and beautiful scenic area but way too much money for what you get......you can find much better closer to major cities and rent a car for the difference........I have had more luxury as they claim for much less price. The price would have been a bargin if the rooms would have looked like what they promote......the baloncy jet tub is on a small cramped deck.....no where on the website do you see such a tiny deck......hope you don't want to sit out there and enjoy the boat view or the empty inlet view because you need to bring a chair.....no chairs either.......the tub.......a two man sized bathtub really with jets....but don't try to fill it even half full as you will run out of hot water......then when you go inside to warm up in your shower.....nope........no more hot water until hours later.......pay more.......or stick to major chain hotel......come on Tauca Lea owner......spends some of our bucks and buy a hair dryer and clock for the second bedroom, fix the doors so they actually shut and lock without jamming your shoulder....and pay more next time for a tile setter.......you can't open some bathroom doors unless you push them over the uneven tiles, especially the one in the kitchen you will stub your toe on it's so much higher.......sorry, very very disappointing

My wife and I stayed at Tauca Lea Spa Resort for 3 days (18-21 July) in mid-summer. We both felt that it was absolutely terrific. We had a one room suite with two person jetted tub on the balcony over looking the harbour. Personally we enjoyed the comings and goings in the harbour though clearly it wouldn't to everyone's taste. Having said that we arrived a day earlier than our booking but were still accomodated. When we were there there was a great view on the inlet side of Tauca Lea of Bald Eagles sitting on a nest so we could understand why visitors would prefer that side of the Resort.

Our suite was a very tastefully fitted out (IKEA fittings) light filled space. It was great to be able to self cater. We ate in the Boat Basin restaurant on our first night. It was a little pricey but the food was very good. On our second night we ate a meal in the apartment of in laws staying in the next unit. We had no problems with the kitchen or supply of utensils and we enjoyed a fine meal in very pleasant circumstances. On our third evening we ate out at the Tofino Botanic Gardens. We had a great meal that was good value for money. While at Tauca Lea we were so relaxed that we never underwent any of the spa treatments as there was no need. My only quibble with the place was that they only provided a continental breakfast. I would have preferred if hot food had also been available. Nevertheless, we a great time at Tauca Lea and would go back in a heart beat. Having previously posted about Poet's Cove at which we also stayed during our trip I would say that Tauca Lea is streets ahead in terms of service and VFM.

I have travelled extensively and can honestly say this is the best place I have ever stayed. It is great value for money and worth upgrading to the best rooms with double jacuzzi bath on the balcony. The suites are simply but beautifully decorated with lots of local art. The best thing is the view across the inlet - we saw bears, otters, sealions, birds, eagles, deer. The restaurant is nice but quite expensive and not much choice for those who don't eat meat or seafood. Ucluelet is a superb place - quiet and beautiful and the beaches are amazing. A place for nature lovers but not those who like to be entertained. My tip would be to plan to self cater at least a night or two and to take food with you from a supermarket in Victoria/Nanaimo or wherever you are coming from - the local supermarket is expensive. Also be aware that although Ucluelet doesn't look far from Nanamo/Victoria - it takes 3 - 4 hours from Nanaimo because the roads are very windy and narrow and you have to go slowly. There is practically nothing on the road for a large part of the way (no toilets, cafes , etc) but lots of things to see. Not to be missed on the drive between Nanaimo and Ucluelet is Cathedral Grove, a short walk around ancient forest - just lovely. My husband and I were unsure about visiting Ucluelet and thought about staying longer in Victoria - that would have been a huge mistake. Also Tofino has places to stay but is not a patch on Ucluelet and you can easily drive between the two.

My husband and I stayed three nights at The Tauca Lea Resort in Ucluelet and wished we had stayed even longer. Our suite was more like a mini apartment with a full sized well equiped kitchen, dining area for 6, family room with fireplace, covered porch with two comfortable chairs, a queen size bedroom and bath. The suite was minimally decorated but to do otherwise would have only taken away from the incredible view of the inlet outside our window. Bring your binoculars because you never know what you might see. The deep european style soaker tub was so comfortable that we each fell asleep during our soak at the end of a long day of hiking. Hiking trails in the area are many and varied and incredibly beautiful. We took way too many picutres but can't figure out which ones to delete. The Boat Basin restaurant on the premises has a very good menu with very decent prices- our plank salmon was mouth watering and the view of a real fishing harbor made for a perfect setting. The breakfast included in the price was also very satisfying. If you're staying for longer than one night the help at the front desk were more than happy to suggest other restaurants in the area. Activities such as whale watching, fishing, kayaking etc can be done right from the harbor in Ucluelet. We had originally thought of staying at the Wickannish Inn in Tofino but decided to spend less on accomodations so that we could stay longer in the area. Other than having a view of the ocean I can't imagine what more the Wickannish has to offer that Tauca Lea doesn't have. Our superior accomodations, great views, delicious meals, a spa and a friendly and relaxed atmosphere made the Tauca Lea, at less than half the price of the Wick. a far, far better value. We'd highly recommend staying there and we'll be sure to return someday.

“Absolutely beautiful”

My partner and I stayed there for two nights recently. What an amazing place! Despite that fact that we actually arrived on the wrong date (mis-communication on our part), the friendly staff went out of their way to accommodate us and find us a room -- even though it's their busiest time of the year.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had an amazing water view. What struck us was the lack of noise! Even with so many others staying there, we felt like we were camping alone in the middle of a forest. And the one of the best features was the super comfortable and cozy bed.

The hot tub on the patio was a great bonus. A soak in the early evening watching the water and nightime sky added to the great experience.

The on-site restaurant was also superb. It was one of the best restaurants either of us had been to in quite some time. Might be a bit pricey for some, but it's well worth the splurge. Desserts were out of this world. If you don't want to eat there (or out), the suite has what you need (i.e. utensils and appliances) to cook indoors and grocery stores are nearby. We did that one night out of the two, and it was a great way to enjoy more time in that great room.

Hotel service is casual (not formal or stuffy) but very friendly. Smiles were abundant.
