“Cancelled the stay”

Riviera Beach Resort - Bass River

I didnt get a chance to stay at the resort. They overcharged my room by 15 dollars each night and couldn't explain why. The person I booked the stay with claimed it was all tax, but when I called back again because the "tax" seemed a little high I was told that there is extra charge for towels and 1-800 numbers usage. The rooms are already quite expensive and we usually don't call the 1-800 numbers. So I cancelled the whole stay, because feels like you can't trust these people.

Hello to: Ovechka, Boston,

Red Jacket Oceanfront Resorts charge a $15.resort fee during the high season, in addition to the 9.7% local and state tax.

The resort fee of $15.00 covers the following:
* Complimentary newspaper, daily
* Large beach towels,"sheet size"
* Umbrellas and beach chairs
* Supervised childrens recreation program
* Complimentary wireless internet over the entire property including the beach.
* Internet access in the lobby
* Complimentary coffee service 24/7.
* Open campus policy to all resorts
* Perferred tee times at Blue Rock Golf Course.

To conclude, I feel that to charge one fee to cover all activities is the proper approach.

Looking forward to exceeding expectations to many happy folks.

Sincerely,

John E. Gilligan, III, V.P. & General Mgr.

“Awesome family resort”

Riviera Beach Resort - Bass River

We just got back from a terrific 3 days at the Riviera Beach Resort. The place really exceeded our expectations on every front. We went with a preferred room and started out with a room on the first floor farthest from the beach. Upon inquiry, the hotel graciously moved us to another preferred room on the 2nd floor with a wonderful view of the ocean and beach. The rooms were clean and adequate, but really who wants to spend time in your room when you are steps from a large, clean sandy beach. My kids spent most of their time at the pool which has a mushroom water spray and zero entry for the little kids. The resort provides you with clean towels for the pool or beach as well as beach chairs and sand toys on the beach. We caught the "Jim Show" (a juggling show) on Saturday afternoon on the lawn. The kids loved it and Jim got a lot of the kids involved in the act. One of the best things is that you really didn't ever have to leave the resort - you could order food and drinks at the pool and on the beach, and you could also bring in your own cooler with snacks and drinks. This was truly a low maintenance, low stress trip. The only downside is that you have to get to the pool pretty early in the morning to get a spot to sit on. Many people showed up when the pool opened, saved 4 chairs with their towels or shoes, and went to the beach all day. By 9:30 most of the (many) poolside chairs were reserved.

We also checked out the Blue Water hotel next door and this seems like it would be a nice option for families with older kids (who might get bored by the kiddie friendly pool at the Riviera). They had a smaller but deeper (and less crowded) pool, and water sports at the ready.

All in all this place was excellent for people with kids. I am always skeptical of Cape "resorts" as many are kind of tired, dirty and overpriced. This was definitely better than even how it looked on their website. The weather was beautiful, the ocean was warm, and the kids were in heaven. We have been ruined for any other Cape Cod resort.

Just got back from 2 days at the Riviera with my husband and 2 kids. Arrived in the evening, the staff were excellent and extremely polite and easy to deal with - I asked a few questions and they answered courteously each time (with no bad attitude whatsoever). We had an oceanfront view with two double beds with access right onto the beach from our deck - very convenient (RM#159), there was a bouquet of REAL flowers and a card wishing me an enjoyable stay at their resort - a pleasant surprise and a thoughtful touch. The room was nicely appointed although I would have preferred four pillows on each bed rather than two and more padding on the mattress - too firm for my comfort level, the tub and toilet are separate from the sink and mirror which works out nicely with 2 adults and 2 kids getting ready in the morning, the bathtub could use a good scrubbing because the bottom is covered with round dots so you don't slip however, they've blackened over time, not very appealling. A microwave would have been handy so that I could have heated up my left over dinner later but there was a mini fridge to store drinks etc., the little soaps and lotions provided weren't drying or irritating. The pool is nice but we couldn't find an available lounge so we brought our own lawn chairs and the guy beside me cracked open a beer, later when I inquired at the desk if you could drink by the pool they said yes but nothing with glass was allowed, really I wasn't comfortable with this because some people can get roudy after 2-3 drinks and there are kids everywhere - might want to revise this policy. Some of the lounges were covered with towels and no one had returned for over an hour, clearly a staff member should monitor this because 2 more families came in and were searching for lounges and wound up leaving. The beach is kept very clean which I appreciated so that you can walk around at night in your bare feet, there are also lounges and umbrellas available for guests during the day. The staff at the on-site restaurant were exceptional and clearly anticipated the guests needs on cue and I am very scrutinizing when it comes to service in restaurants, some of the other restaurants we went to the staff were indifferent and stone-faced. This was our first time to Cape Cod and enjoyed our time here.

Thank you for your honest assessment. This is now 2008 and as you can see we are monitoring Trip Advisor on a regular basis now.

At our next meeting I will ask and see if there are any points of interest that you mentioned that still need attention.

“Return Trip even better!”

Riviera Beach Resort - Bass River

My family returned to the Riviera Beach for three days in July, 2005. We found a resort completely dedicated to the guests' satisfaction. From the immaculate rooms (we had the extra large family suite) to the pleasant staff members in every area of the property, I can say we were all very happy with our stay. Heather at the front desk made it seem like we were the only guests on property.
The beach was clean and obviously groomed daily. Towels, umbrellas and chairs were readily available. The pool was nice, although the typical "chair savers" threw towels on lounge chairs and were not seen again all day.
The kids club was great, and our 6 year old thoroughly enjoyed it.
The location is perfect...far enough away from the bustle and traffic, but close enough to restaurants, shopping, and activities to keep everyone happy.

Incidentally, when we returned home, we discovered that our daughter had left her favorite stuffed animal behind. We called the front desk, and two days later, the toy showed up in the mail! Great service from beginning to end.

Just an FYI. If the towel is wet they usually are gone. If the towel is dry, then unfortunately they may be chair savers. In any case, if the chair is vacatant for a prolong period of time... use it.

Your daughter must have been tears, I am so glad we found her stuffed animal.

Come back and visit us soon. Thank you

“Great hotel, great location”

Riviera Beach Resort - Bass River

Just got back from 2 nights at the Riviera Beach. Was a little wary of going there as it has only been reviewed twice on this website, although both were positive. I am a very picky mom and always very thorough when investigating hotels. This hotel is great, very clean, updated throughout. Rooms were in great condition, everything looked new. The only two negative things were the restaurant and the beach. The restaurant is only open until 2 p.m. so if you want a quick dinner with the kids you have to go out. We went to the Skipper restaurant both nights, is right down the road about mile. Great place also. The beach is nice soft sand, but there is a good amount of seaweed and a good dropoff right off the water line. There never seemed to be a "low tide" period, surely due to the Cape geography, so it's not the best beach to look for critters with the kids. Not the best wading beach either due to the quick dropoff. But the beach itself was quiet and not crowded and close to a fishing jetty. The outside pool is great for kids with a zero entry and fountains, and a bridge to swim under. It is 4 ft. deep and the deepest end. The inside pool is smaller and goes to 8 feet, with no shallow entry. But it was hot and crowded in the inside pool room so we headed outside to the fresh air and sunshine anyway. All in all a safe choice for a Cape getaway....
