“Not great, but not awful either”

My friend and I stayed for one night at this hotel in a twin room, where smoking was permitted. Our room was small and it felt really cramped, but it was clean.

The bathroom was clean and the shower worked well, but I have to say that the loo roll was like sandpaper - definitely the cheapest you could ever get! We had soap in our dispenser though and clean fresh towels.

We were a few floors up, so we didn't hear any troublesome music, as other reviewers have commented on, but our room fronted onto the very busy road below so it was noisy, unless the double glazing was completely closed.

We paid to watch a film, which was fine, but the TV's are restricted from being turned up much, so I had to sit on the end of my bed so I was close to the TV to hear comfortably.

The highlight for us were the pizzas we ordered!! There are take-away menus at reception and the pizza/kebab place is the only one which delivers to the hotel. The pizzas were lovely and a good price, so we would certainly recommend that take-away!

Total down-side is that the hotel is being re-furbished and there is nothing on the website to pre-warn you. We had to go through plastic covers and sawdust and wooden walkways to get into reception and there was noise and workmen's equipment everywhere - it was awful. We didn't go down for breakfast because of that. If we had been warned, we wouldn't have minded so much (although to be fair we would most probably have booked somewhere else!).

One plus side is that it is right next to the train station, which is very convenient.

All in all, not great, but not horrendous either. I would not have wanted to spend 2 nights there though, so I suppose that says something!

    • Liked — The pizza's we got from a local takeaway!
    • Disliked — Re-furbishment building works, cramped room, too quiet TV and awful loo roll!

I stayed at this hotel recently for 2 nights on business. I knew it wasn't going to be a 5 star experience as none of these Express Holiday Inns are but this is the worst I have stayed at, for the following reasons:

It is right on a busy road.
It is right next to a rather loud and down market pub/nightclub.
It is actually 10 minutes walk to the city centre bars and resteraunts etc.
You pay extra for parking and it is a hassle to get in and out of the secure NCP style car park (park ourside, come in get the pass code, go back, programme it in, get into car park, carry all stuff back from car park to hotel).
Arriving by car is a nightmare - following their directions you will be on the wrong side of a 3 lane carriageway in the one way system.
There are only 4 TV channels on the TV.
My soap dispenser things were empty in the bathroom.

On the positive side, it is handy if you arrive by train and is safe and secure inside.

I have stayted at other better and equally priced hotels in Bristol. I'll be staying at one of these others next time I go.

“Horrible, unless you like LOUD music till 2 am.”

I stayed here with my family on a Saturday night. My first impression was that the rooms were dingy and small for the price. The bolted down hairdrier didn't work, there was no shower curtain, and the soap dispenser (the only source of a combination soap/shampoo liquid) was empty. Oh well, it would all look fine once my eyes were closed right? Wrong. The hotel is located above a music club. On Saturday night they were operating af full tilt; blasting out LOUD rock music till 2 am. This was followed by the shouts and scuffling of the drunken patrons attempting to make their way home. We had a 6 am flight from Bristol Airport that we were to reach via the bus conveniently leaving from Temple Meads Station across the street. All in all, small children included, we probably only had 2 hours of uninterupted sleep. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

the traffic outside the hotel is relentless and there are people racing up and down the street till 4 am. you have to keep the windows closed to minimize the noise but without a/c the room was like an oven. i have stayed in many holiday inns and this was the worst and will not stay here again. in no way has this put me off holiday inn just this one.
