I'm a big fan of this hotel and have written a review before.
But this time I encountered a problem which one or two others have mentioned as well.
For the first time at the Berkley ( and I reckon I have stayed there 3 or 4 times a year for the last 8 years) I had a noise problem.
If you are on the first floor at the front you will have a problem with music thumping up from the cafe bar beneath. When I called reception to complain ( at about 10.30pm) they said the music would continue until 1.00am!
After a complaint and a phone call to the non resident manager I was moved to a quieter room. and to fair to the hotel, they did not charge me for the night I stayed.
I think it is fundamental to a hotel that they should look after their guests first, rather than drinkers downstairs. And if you do get a noisy room you should be told beforehand and offered a discount. I'm sure that some nightowls wouldn't worry about a bar staying open until 1.00 because they would probably be in it!
But not me, I'd had a long day and was looking forward to a long meeting in the morning, I needed some sleep.
