Would agree with most of the reviews below. Really pleasant stay in good location. Staff were very helpful and friendly in a really sincere fashion. Nice touches to the room- the fruitbowl and the sherry. CD player and DVD worked well as well.
Overall the hotel oozes a relaxed vibe.
Didn't manage to have breakfast although reading some of the other reviews wish I had.
One possible drawback is that they appear to have very limited car parking spaces during the day ( at a guess- no more than 8) this increases in the evening as the business that they share the car park with leave.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — great friendly staff
    • Disliked — uncertainty about car park, I had to move my car while there.

“GOOD STYLISH HOTEL”

I stayed in the hotel on my own for a bank holiday weekend break.

The hotel is well situated on a quiet square in the University district, midway between the city centre and Clifton. So it is well placed for the attractions. There are lots of cheap restaurants on the main road nearby.

My room was small but adequate, well equipped (CD & DVD players) and with nice touches (complimentary fruit and Bristol sherry).

Breakfast was very good - fruit salad, muesli, pastries, smoothies, hot meals to order - and served in an attractive room over-looking the Square. (Breakfast was as advertised extra to the room only price: +£7.50 for continental buffet, more for cooked).

Common parts had interesting artworks for sale.

Friendly staff.

Only possible problem: interior sound insulation was poor and could be a problem if the neighbours are noisy. Also, at the back rooms overlook the cafe garden and that might be noisy if it is in operation.

    • Liked — Good breakfast in attractive room overlooking the square
    • Disliked — Poor internal sound insulation, though not actually a problem while I stayed

“Pleasant change from the Big Boys”

Friendly and helpful staff made a stay at this pleasantly furnished and decorated hotel a pleasure. My double room was fine, with CD and DVD player, complementary sherry and fruit bowl. The view from my room left a lot to be desired, but to honest when you are in the middle of Bristol you’re never going to get views of the Serengeti. Within easy walking distance of the University district which has a cosmopolitan and ever busy feel to it, you won’t have to go far in search of somewhere to eat or drink. Only meal I had in the hotel restaurant was breakfast which was one of the best I have had in a long time, service was a credit to the hotel. I look forward to staying here again.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Single rooms are too small for a pixie! Double rooms are better but need renovating. The in house restaurant looks great but is always empty for a good reason. Would advise a walk down the road instead.

“OK, but overpriced”

Berkeley Square Hotel

22 Feb 2008

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's in a really nice area close to the zoo, the downs and lots of good shops and resturants.

The hotel is nicely decorated, though our room (on the top floor) was very small. We also had no view as there strangely seemed to be a brick wall built in front of our window which faced the square. The facillities in the room were good, our DVD player wasn't working when we arrived but was quickly replaced when we reported it. The bed and bathroom were fine and we didn't have any problem with noise.

The staff were friendly to us, though I saw another couple, whose room keycard had malfunctioned leaving them locked out of their room, being treated quite badly. They were understandably fed up but the receptionists attitude seemed to be - there's nothing I can do until an engineer arrives and therefore it is not my problem- she wasn't apologetic at all just seemed annoyed that they were causing her stress.

If the room had been £40 a night cheaper I would have given a better review. But it was very overpriced and I was also surprised that breakfast wasn't included considering we were paying over £100 a night for a hotel that was only OK. I would only stay there again if I had money to burn.
