I stayed 1 night . I was seduced by the website which said it was a charming place. I was put in the house next door which is used for overspill. This was drab and poorly lit. My room was spacious but poorly and cheaply furnished and carpeted. The shower room was tiny and had a very noisy fan. There was an ancient TV for which the remote did not work. For Anyone visiting who is commuting from the city centre to this place there are huge traffic problems at peak times and the short 2.5 mile journey takes about 30 minutes. There are also access difficulties and car parking is hazardous. Getting in and out when it is busy is awful, as the approach is single track and turning is nigh impossble. I had to reverse back down the drive which is about 60 yards!
The breakfast was very good and in my view the one redeeming feature, although this was served at a single large dining table so this could be cramped if all guests dined together. Not recommended.

We recently visited Bristol for the weekend and stayed in a wonderful family run Bed & Breakfast in Cliton called Downs Edge (www.downsedge.com). The rooms were comfy, very reasonably priced and had fantastic views over the Downs.

The owner, Lindy Tasker was so friendly and was more than happy to provide maps and advice on places to visit in Bristol and Bath. She also cooks a great breakfast (we even bought 2 jars of her home made jam to take away)

Would definitley recommend - we'll be going back!

My mother stayed at Downs Edge twice when I was at university in Bristol. The location is perfect for Wills, Badock, Churchill, Hiatt Baker, Durdham and University Halls so is great for parents coming to visit. It's also just a short drive or a 15-20 minute walk to Clifton and the Triangle.

The rooms are fine (although some rooms do have showers that are built into the room, worth checking if you are sharing a room with someone who isn't your partner), my mother reported that the beds are very comfy and refreshments etc provided. The rooms with a garden view are particularly lovely. The real gem of Downs Edge though is the breakfast. Even though I wasn't staying at the B&B I was able to have breakfast with my mother and it was truly amazing, I have still never had french toast anywhere as good as that at Downs Edge.

I will definitely stay at Downs Edge on trips back to Bristol.

I stayed at Down's Edge recently with two colleagues and we all agreed we were very comfortable and well looked after. Down's Edge now consists of two adjacent houses - I was in the main house which is clearly a family home and beautifully furnished with a lot of old/antique furniture. If you want modern glitz, then this might not be the place for you, but we loved it. My friends stayed next door which has probably been prepared specially for B&B and the furniture and fittings were more modern. Breakfast is the main event and it is superb - the menu (chosen the previous day) is imaginative and made us want to stay for longer just to have a chance to sample more! I have stayed in some very good hotels in the UK and abroad and the Down's Edge breakfast beats them all.
