Having been intrigued when seeing this new bar as we had driven by a couple of times recently, and also having read the very positive reviews below, we decided to drop into The Old Bookshop on our way to seeing a night of comedy at The Comedy Box above the Hen and Chicken, just up the road. I have to say straight away that it reached and even exceeded our high expectations. From the moment you walk in this place has a lovely homely, welcoming feel. We arrived at about 6:30 on a Saturday night and, although there were quite a few people already in, there were plenty of spare tables. We ordered a couple of small Peroni's from the lovely lady behind the bar, who couldn't have been more friendly & helpful, and sat down to peruse the very tempting looking list of tapas dishes. We settled on marinated olives with Mark’s bread and oil, salt and pepper cuttlefish with sweet chilli sauce and lamb fritters with a minted pea puree but could have happily plumped for any one of half a dozen other great looking choices. They were served to us very promptly by the chef himself who was also very friendly. The dishes were all excellent. There was plenty enough for the two of us and great value at only £10 for the lot. We finished off with a slice of Bakewell Tart for me and a choc/raspberry muffin for my wife, both yummy and again reasonable value at £1.75 each, I think. By the time we were leaving at 7:30 the place was filling up nicely, presumably with people looking forward to seeing the band due to appear latter on in the evening. Will definitely be going back!!
