We stayed here on one of the promotional offers, which made our night excellent value. We checked in at 2pm, which was nice and early and meant we could dump our bags and do some shopping, before coming back to relax/get ready for dinner at a very leisurely pace. Perhaps we were lucky, but our room on the 3rd floor was extremely spacious. Huge bed, quality bed linen and toiletries, tasteful decor, lovely large bathroom (roll top bath, monsoon shower), clean and quiet. Contrary to some of the other reviewers we didn't find the room too hot, but it was definitely MUCH TOO DARK!!! I like ambient lighting, but there were 3 lamps for the whole room which, coupled with small windows and dark furniture, made the room really really dark. It was quite a challenge to put make up on or read.
Both our meals (dinner and breakfast) were delicious. Beautiful setting, a great choice of wines, including many by the glass, good size portions, great service....no complaints basically. We pre-booked our table for dinner. Some guests have said they were disappointed not to able to get a table in the restaurant until 10pm when they checked in, but if the hotel has a quality restaurant then you would expect it to be booked up, surely?
The location is great, really central. We came by bus (as we live in Bristol) as apparently the parking is a bit of a hassle and rather expensive.
I have no complaints that a standard lamp wouldn't fix, and will be booking the same deal as a wedding gift for my brother and his fiance.
